Sony FDR AX100

I'm considering purchasing this camcorder. I've seen the footage and it looks quite good. Would this camcorder be appropriate for use to create stock footage clips for sale on Pond5 etc...

Of course, i'm very happy with it,
but fact is, ... you look never incognito like a tourist ;)

Buy DJI Osmo, so you look like a tourist.. :D

The AX is small handheld. I've had it a year or more and very happy with the 4K footage. The photos are crap, Facebook or scrapbook quality. I also have the Sony DSC‑RX10 II 4K for about six months. It also shoot excellent 4k video and photos are better but not great quality. Both have great zoom capability. The 10II is about $500 less. You will be happy with footage with either one.

Thank you all for the advice - being incognito is a big plus with this camera.

I sold the ax100 to get the rx10 m2. It is way better than the ax100 so far for stock, but I miss it for long event shooting and more run and gun. Rx10 is also cheaper too!

I love my ax100! brilliant camera I bought it on the advice of my uni lecturer and this review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3YjxrJOSeE never regretted it and it's close to paying it's self off from stock alone!

Besides the FS700, which paid for itself with that darn bird clip, the camera I've made most money with (compared to cost and amount of shots made) and is most discrete is the RX100m2/m3/m4 (had all three) although the tele range of the zoom is not so great for most shots it's fine. Shoots better quality than the AX100, with more options, (m4 having 4K (UHD)) and 240fps (HD) The AX100 is very nice but not really so manageable if you want to change sharpness/contrast/saturation or record good audio, decided not to sell mine though, as it's a decent B cam.

Working currently with the PXW X70 which is much better than the AX100, and doesn't cost much more. Fully customizable Picture Profiles, and that sturdy handle/XLR input which can be removed so is only slightly bigger than AX100. Has sensitivity to highlights, like the AX100, which is my chief complaint for both of them - they don't overexpose in a pretty way.

If you wanted to marry the features and size and look into one cam, you'd probably be happier with Dapoopta's suggestion. That said, I had two cams going today, and wished I had brought my others.

^ Sony fanboy. What a dork.

Oh.

Anyway, another interesting bit of info about the X70 I forgot to mention is that those who have made the paid upgrade to shoot 4K (otherwise the cam shoots only 422 HD) get the dubious pleasure of the 100mb/s bitrate XAVC free update sometime in Jan or Feb, I think. The AX100 shoots 100mb/s already (after free firmware update), but is a different codec than that of the X70. I checked for image quality of the AX100 100 vs the old 60mb/s and for the life of me could not tell ... whether motion/compression artifacts/color robustness, etc. I could not tell. Well, yeah, the files were bigger ...

I'm becoming a Sony fanboy slowly. There's nothing better... Well maybe the c300 m2.
