Anyone shooting the a7R II yet? Any comparison on photo or video to your old cameras? From DP Review it looks very favorable compared to Nikon, Canon and the cheaper RX-10 II in both 4k, HD video and in photos.

according to dxomark.com the a7r II is the best camera out of every camera on the market way above even phase 1 and anything canon makes. Zeiss takes the lead with lenses so theoretically a a7rII with a zeiss 45 or 85m lens would be worlds best setup

I tried one and sent it back. Underwhelmed by the quality after the hype. Ended up getting a more reliable Nikon D750.

This low light test of Sony A72sII did not look very natural to me.

The low light capability is basically worthless to me. I try to catch the human eye visibility, the reality. Now for a private detective like Jake this would be great when peeping inside parked cars and through bedroom windows, or spying in a public park at night. Maybe in a war zone to show evil guys with guns. For what this world is about, not value to me. To me it's more of a gee whizz look at what you can see in the dark type of hype.
For me is great clean, sharp, proper contrast and color camera at 800 ISO and below. There are so very few photos or videos I've found good enough quality at ISO above 1000 to submit for sale. Maybe a stop motion day time shot of a bird in flight or a sports game.
More important is clarity and definition of leaves on a tree or water in a waterfall, that is what I want a camera to see the same as the human eye.

I own it and it is amazing. But you need to know how to use it. I own Canon before and Canon was a lot easier to use. I quite technicla and still it took me time to find the best way to use the auto-focus and never forget to turn off the stabilizer when you are on a tripod.
you also need a good tripod and a good lens to take advantage of the incredibly high level of crips detail it can capture. Also the auto iso mode always shoot with too much noise, so I learned to set the iso manually most of the time.

I did read about an issue in regards to astrophotography with the A7RII. The tests showed a "disappearance of stars". Meaning the sensor has (had) a serious issue and would literally eliminate stars that any other decent camera would easily pick up. Not sure if this was fixed or not. They call it the "star eater issue": https://petapixel.com/2017/05/04/star-eater-issue-no-longer-recommend-sony-cameras-astrophotography/
