Sony FDR AX100

Since Canon is dead with little to no innovation I too may becoming a Sony fan. The only issue I have on these two cameras discussed is the poor photo quality. Hoping the new A7's will have great 4K and superb photos. Anyone find the photos to be great on the new ones?

Isn't it Sony RX10 II for photo and video is the best bet so far! And itis cheaper than AX100.

Yes the RX10II does shoot far better photos than the AX-100. It's also small and has a great zoom reach. It is about $400 cheaper also. I really like the quality of the 4K footage on both of them, the RX10 maybe a little better. If you are shooting stock photos with either one don't expect a lot of great photos. I just returned from a couple weeks in the Caribbean; got a few over 200 great 4K clips and maybe a dozen great photos along with a few hundred snapshots from the RX10II. Big lesson, keep the Canon 5D MK III for photos and use the Sony for video.

I am so used to camcorder's I find it difficult to shoot with digital camera's. Tried the GH4 and hated it. Also found it interesting RX10II doesn't provide 24fps at UHD. I've been shooting in LA and NYC on my way to Dubai and the Seychelles so far I'm impressed with the footage from the ax100 I'm testing with - but I would love to be able to compare it with the F7, AX1 or other similar Sony 4K camcorders just to see the differences. The great thing about the ax100 for me is I need to blend in, I've been so restricted with my current PMW-200 I have lost a lot of opportunities for some great footage for instance recently the acropolis in Athens. If you didn't like the gh4 you won't like the rx10.

With the AX100 you don#t take photos, you make stills from your footage!

With the AX-100 in 4K 100mb mode your can't take photos.

Doesn't matter, as you know, the photos suck ... it's a VIDEO camera. Pretend that useless function doesn't exist, and rate the camera based on the real features. Note: The "Pro" X70 has no Photo button, nor does anyone complain about its lack. Buy a nice little RX100m3/4 and keep it with you at all times for photo capability when you don't wanna carry your DSLR or larger mirrorless.

Rekindle, that's wrong what you say. At the front above the start/stopp button you have a very small "video/photo change" button. With this it works immediately!
But really, the normal photos suck, while the UHD still grabs look much better if there isn't concrete moving in the scene.

The shots i sold are close ups from a Tawny Frogmouth, maybe nobody else makes shots or videos from such a groovy bird. I always make stills from all my clips for photo community, website or else. Unfortunately here at P5 they are ........ (won't say the word) ...... with photo curation. So i won't waste my time and never again try to upload photos here.
