Hahaha that sucks Ulrich. I had the similar happen with my phantom3. Updated the controller through the app but didn't update the drone. Got out to the site and it kept saying not connected. I didn't realize the app didn't update the actual drone, just the damn remote! I had to call support to figure that one out :-)

Turns out I didn't really need the unit on my trip; the space required to store the bag in which the FS700 kit lives was needed, and I would have used it (the Odyssey 7Q+) rarely, if at all, so it was kindof a blessing.
Convergent Design came through though, and it looks like the unit was repaired and back at the post office in Haines about a week after I left, having sent the unit to them the day of our departure. They repaired a power resistor that was fried, and updated the firmware. No charge. Nice!
Needless to say I was really careful when updating the FW on my drone. All well on that, although I will say the process is a lot more easier for that - quicker and more definitive. None of that "Unit "may" do this or that ... it just updated and beeped the happy beep.
Now back to work, having gone on yet another trip and have too much footage to process.

I'm about to update mine. What's the trick :)?

Drone? You have Phantom ... DJI craziness ... in Inspire the trick was to wait for 20 minutes, while it beeped and flashed, praying did not hurt, then update controller.

Weird you do have to treat the controller and Phantom as individual pieces for firmware upgrades, I have done both and calibrated controller and Phantom separately. Just came back from Vancouver was at two areas with posted signs no drones and cute pictograms of a drone.

Just came back from Alaska, should be on the bucket list of everyone, I only did the inside passage, was absolutely stunning we don't have snow capped mountains where I live in this 32° weather but seeing snow capped mountains and whales breaching in Alaska, awesome.

I found the downside of owning one's own sailboat in Southeast AK ... I mean, one of them ... that is, the breaching whales seen so often are within view of binocs, but out of range of camera ... and the damn boat only goes 6 knots, so by the time we are closer, they are gone, well, except the one that popped up and swam right under the boat when I was reefing ... anyway, better to go on one of them superfast tour boats ... is that what you did? I was hoping for slow motion 4K RAW shots of breaching, bubble feeding, etc, and all I got was a wet t-shirt and some blurry porpoises. Where did you go, Norm?

I didn't get any close ups of breaching but I did enjoy the sights, I was on a cruise ship and small fast tour boat, Vancouver to Glacier Bay, Georgia Straits were the feeding grounds of hump backs where we saw lots of them.

That's a helluva run ... did it last year when bringing the boat up here from Gibsons (about 1000 nautical miles) and it was a hoot. Took over a month. Glad you enjoyed! Hope you got some good shots!
