Yuri Arcurs - in the news, again!

it's obvious that he have people that work for him.
I love shoting stock footage so if i have enough money i wouldn`t hire someone to do it for me, i will just hire someone to edit clips that i shot and to upload and keyword them, that is bigest pain for me, but maybe someday we all be able to have people working for us :)

@luxor you should watch the clip again. He has 50 people working for him. Do you actually think he's a one man show?
LUXORPYRAMID 25 Jun 2011 19:21
@jason - After seeing many of his promo videos IMO his tendency is to funnel all the credit to himself. That's what I mean. No awards or recognition to anybody else. If you ever work for him, you would spend all your life in the shadow of Arcurs.

People who want to know what makes Arcurs so great would also want to know and even interview who is his illumination specialist, his make-up artist, the person in charge of the models dresses, who picks the models, who is his most productive model, who is the graphic artist that takes the photo to its final delivery stage, who trains his models, etc...
jason 25 Jun 2011 22:44
@ luxor what you don't like is that he's not giving credit to those who work for him. So what. How many at the top of their trade (photogragphy) do? In fact he's making a living from both photos and videos. Are you?
LUXORPYRAMID 25 Jun 2011 23:59
@jason, I think you are a fan of Arcurs, so it is a waste of time explaining myself.

I would take the Arcurs self-promotion machine with at large grain of salt. Who knows what's real and what is part of the buzz-machine.
zygistudio 26 Jun 2011 18:56
LUXORPYRAMID - what you did to Yuri's home page (http://www.arcurs.com/)?
RekindlePhoto 26 Jun 2011 19:12
Well now ya'll have done it ... pissed Yuri off ...
.
He just assigned all his Pond5 videos over to me. See, now there is at least two of us involved. We are working on combining the photo side, it might take a couple weeks to get that done ;)

It seems I smell lots of envy here. Just because someone is successful doesn't mean they didn't work to get there. On the contrary - if you actually would take the time to go through Yuri's site you will find that he shares his knowledge with the world for free. He started doing that from day 1. He was once asked why he does that. His answer was along the lines that there is enough room for many, but few will actually do the work needed to succeed. (paraphrased) - Learn from the people that are successful. Mimic them. You might become successful as well.

I am not jealous of anybody. It's just that Superman is really Supermen. I just would like to know who is the winning team. I learned nothing watching his videos... I do not shoot to make money, I shoot to feel alive, money takes 2nd/3rd place and studio work is like being in a huge coffin.

Yuri, I now you read this thread. Tell me, who's the blond girl in the computer? Does she like grumpy old men? Can you autograph your first Hasselblad and send it to me? Since you break so many monopods and camera gear, I am willing to help the planet by re-cycling them. Send them to my home address free of charge. ;-)

20 years ago I was going to change my name to Yuri Andreinovich Shapiro. Never did...

I should be out filming...instead of discussing subjects like this. I shouldn't be criticizing a fellow member. Mr. Arcurs, I hope you and your staff become billionaires.
