I agree with you all and i'm pro minimum price...said that i don't think people low the price because they feel inferior,i think they do that because they want to have a better ranking and visibility...

Maybe not inferior as a person but needing confidence in their work and needing sales to boost confidence in what they're doing. What I'd like to hear from is a person with the training to say why people pick the prices they do.
One of the things Don said is sticking with me a bit. The idea of raising prices after the first or second sale is common but I've had sales with in days of listing and though I didn't raise the price they haven's sold again in years. If I had raised the price and not sold again I would probably blame the higher price. This proves to me that price isn't all that critical to the sale. I wouldn't think a movie maker sets out to make a mediocre movie and you can't replace a slow flying eagle with a sparrow and get the same results.

True, pricing is low on priority of what sells and especially profit. If the subject is needed it makes little or no difference on if it is $10 of $79. A couple days ago I sold a clip on $$ for over $500, the same clip that is significantly less everywhere else. In fact the same clip at $$ is listed at $79 so why did they pay over $500. Service and personal contact. Same clip, same quality, no difference at all other than service. I seldom upload clips that are not easily reproduced otherwise they would be much higher. I do travel, landscape and destination type footage. I know they can and will sell for more but I normally start out at $59-79. Some of my beginner footage with old cameras that haven't sold are still at $40. I strongly believe those who sell at $10-20 trying to make sales that they believe will boost their search priority are nuts at best. I hope low priced sales do nothing to improve priority.
Basically price is a very small motivation to buyers, the subject and quality and reputation of the photographer is probably 90%.
Still haven't heard from any $10 photographers here at P5 who claim to profit over $2000 or much more a month. Yet there are a lot of $50 plus sellers making much more than that. Remember the average HD footage price here at P5 is still over $64; even the $10 sellers can't pull that down.

i agree that you can't replace an eagle with a sparrow but you can replace a eagle portrait with another eagle portrait and on this case price matter i guess...i start to think this because my income on ss is double than here where probably buyers have the chance to spend less if clips are similar...i know that it is going to destroy the market and i'm not going to do a battle price with anyone but we have to face it for that we should ask for a minimum price...we should consider also that 30$ have a different value to us people or indian or chinese.....

can i ask how could you sell a clip at 500$ on ss as hd is set to 79$??i'm asking you that because the same thing happened to me yesterday when i sold a normal hd clip for 105$(earning) and i'm still wondering why.....

Because a dollar equivalency may buy more rice in India or China is not relevant because their economy is lower or higher in one place or another. The fact is you're selling on a world market with no boarders. It would be like saying gold should be valued differently as you cross boarders. The currency changes but the value of the metal or video clip remain the same. The fact is that a video maker living in Timbuktu or wherever should have the advantage on certain video clips. The advantage being is if I want a video clip of that location I either have to buy what's available or travel there to get it. Witch is most cost effective I ask you? If I ask you for a clip of Sacramento, Calif. are you willing to come here to make the clip I want for $10? The fact is that if you live in a country with a lower standard of living the extra money may make you better off economically than your fellow country man. Is there anything wrong with bettering your lot in life? Because, theoretically, we are all born equal doesn't mean we have to stay there.

SS has a program called Premier. They sell the same footage for several hundred to over five hundred dollars instead of the normal $79. With this program the buyer gets
"Enjoy peace of mind with enhanced protection.
Ensure both you and your clients are always covered with unlimited distribution, enhanced legal protection, and third party rights transfer.
Work easier with always-on personal service.
With dedicated account management and complimentary research assistance, Premier is the all-in-one platform for designers, buyers,
and managers alike."
At NAB they stated that these much higher selling prices are growing and they expect a 30% increase in number of sales through this program. The big buyers have no problem paying several hundred dollars for 20 seconds.
This should help teach the bottom dwellers who sell for cheap that footage really has a high value. I've made three such sales this week.
Sorry for plugging SS since P5 is still my bread and butter agency. A good lesson though.

My experience is the same. You have to make sure "sensitive use" is selected though. There is absolutely no need to micro price footage. I always hated the term "race to the bottom" but, unbelievably, we have people who put their clips up here at $10 & $20.
Come on Pond5 - put a decent minimum for HD and 4K. Let's not kill off the profession - as is happening with stills.
