Panasonic FZ1000 shooting 4K

Interesting to find out how that holds up, and if it won't distort on the edges.

And yes Stefan, that is how it seems to go, and good for us in a way! Although I doubt Panasonic would bring something comparable on the market when they haven't even fulfilled backorders on the GH4.

If video only 37mm, it can't have any distortion, IMO.
Well, 25mm in picture, may be.

I expect they sell 750-800€, now Cyberport sell 850€ is way too much than the US dollar market. Anyway we European are the dumm people accepting 30% mark-up, or simply change the US$ sign into € sign. :D

@ Stef

Why Panasonic has to crop so much (25mm for picture and 37mm for video) for 4K? Any idea?

Probably the EU price includes Value Added Tax where the US adds tax in addition to sales price. Many companies don't share all data between different divisions. Sony did that with the almost $6,000 Z-100 which I believe was junk and then the $2000 AX-100 that is doing a great job, smaller and very easy to use. If too much information is shared it sometimes stymies invention and discovery.

Don,

We pay 19% VAT and how much are you paying?
RekindlePhoto 13 Jun 2014 19:18
Here in Utah anything associated with video production has no VAT or sales tax. So cameras, computers, memory etc etc have no additional tax. Makes me happy.

I'm moving to Utah

Jake,

May be ask Don to buy and sent it to you! Of course he pays for you, even better.. :D

Don,

What do you mean "If too much information is shared it sometimes stymies invention and discovery." And what this has to do with 30% higher price in EU than USA?

An earlier question was asked why Panasonic would release two similar low priced 4K dslr cameras so close. I'm sure they had separate development teams design, test and build the two cameras. By having separate teams with some shared information they can discover new and better ways and production; using different parts, sensors etc etc. If the same team built and designed both cameras they have less possibility of new break throughs and advancements.

I used to buy everything from Adorama or B&H but now local stores match or beat prices with no shipping and no tax. Utah is trying to encourage Hollywood and other companies to use Utah as a base or location for movies and videos. Sorry for the EU pricing, on my many visits and living there, I have found almost everything much more expensive than here. Sorry ;(

I want to ask a stupid question. How can they built a 25-400 mm with F2.8 and 5 axis image stabilization for a $900 camera and they cannot built the same lens for a DSLR for less than $900?

AND for the dslr it will be at least twice as big and four times as heavy. Must be all the plastic ;)
