4K Chat

¿¿¿¿ ???? I do not understand, since I plan to upload the HD version as well, if I can buy a 4k cam.

My point was simply that if you buy a 4K cam, but are in the field and the concern is for acquisition card space and storage space, then simply shooting in 1080 for some shots might be an option. Depends on the subject and the conditions. If you have limitless cards and daily storage regimen that allows you to shoot all day and back up to giant portable drives this is not an issue.

Initially working with 4k is going to require the sort of workflow management that production companies have, maybe not the pre-production, but attention to the time and resources required to address production, post and distribution. The increases in storage space and time uploading has become an expensive part of the process which SS appears to appreciate, hopefully others will follow there lead and support producers by setting some minimum rates.

Agree, everything does not need to be shot in 4K. Save the 4K for the best production value shots and shoot the duck pond at HD.

Got the Z100 and put it to the test almost immediately in quite an extreme environment. The lack of histogram is a real pain in the butt however I've enjoyed shooting with it so far and the results look good. I'll need to examine further when I get home on bigger monitor. I've probably halved the life span of the camera already but the footage is more than worth it!

PS: I can't figure out how to embed Youtube player here, any suggestions? Thanks!

That is some awesome footage. I watched it in full screen mode. Nice! That should do well as stock for sure. :) As far as embedding youtube, just copy the link and paste it I believe. But make it a "link" thing. It should work. Trying it here:

Didn't work... will figure it out unless something changed again on the forum mechanism.. :(

I just tried all methods, looks like the parser is broken, It is not seeing opening and closing switches under the link function.

No histogram or waveform monitor in the cam? Thats absolutely a no go for 2014. I was also in the business to buy a new camcorder from Canon last year but they had of course crappy monitor resolution and only zebras. I've told them keep it. I will buy it if you implement those features via firmware. I would pay an extra grand if I can avoid using an external monitor all the time.

That certainly counts as quite extreme environment. I'm sure my wife deeply appreciates the fact that this kind of shooting opportunity doesn't present itself around here. I'm the kind of guy who'd step closer to an avalanche to get all the details. :D

Did you shoot this in HD or 4K? The link "only" offers HD (at least in my country). Looks pretty good on my screen.

Looking forward to more reports of your field tests.
