No, this is the Hero3 Black. I ordered it soon after it was announced (oops, there goes my Pond5 payout..) If I had waited I would have saved shipping, apparently....
I finally got a response from GoPro regarding my questions...they told me to charge the remote (duh) and issued a pat reply regarding the fact that ProTune is flat and unsharpened....yeah, dude, I know....geez. The resolution is great for what it is, but it's still got that "GoPro" look what with the distortion and such, and no, there does not seem to be any tally light on the remote (even though there IS a red LED that tells me it's on, but not that tells me it's recording...dumb omission, that!)
I think the quality is such that I will be fine for sticking the camera in places I would have to spend thousands to protect a better camera, and in some cases, the portability and ease of use are such that it gets the shot when others can't. But it's a long way from "Pro" as they would have you believe, and I wish they weren't so into bluster and BS.
@jason: I did use the SPot exposure mode....that works great if shooting out/through a window, but again, if the detected light changes, you have an exposure shift, which isn't pretty. They should have a way to lock the exposure.....ESPECIALLY gain/ISO.

That is exactly the issue I have them. It is a great camera for fun, but I would not use it for stock unless it is something very unique and hazardous to a better camera.

How about using it for what it really was designed for? Tie it to a snow board, or a set of skies, or a helmet, or anything else that moves really fast? Slow moving stuff such as your and in some cases your body may not cut it for sports shots. There is major trickery to using these little box shaped things, but if I were to tell you all those secrets I would have to kill you. ;)

Use them like they are expendable ;). A couple weeks ago I blew one up having it too close to an exploding target inside a pumpkin and shooting it with a high powered rifle. I use it where a good camera will be damaged or destroyed, or when I need a small camera mounted like Vader said. Using it for normal stock is not a good product in most cases.

Costco is selling the Hero 2 outdoor edition w/wifi backpac for 199.99.

I saw that last week. Really a good deal with the wifi.

Andy, you DID try to kill me - you have proof on video. Too bad you didn't finish me off.
Bu yeah, disposable, easy to carry as extra/spare, easy to mount, and occasionally capable of brilliant footage.
Too bad they still fall short of "pro" as in giving us a few things, most important being the ability to lock the exposure and a lens that doesn't make close up faces look like insane clowns! (Although that can be a good thing, I suppose, at times....)
Found a mic case recently that, repurposed, makes the coolest hardcase for all my GoPro gear - each component in its own foam slit, etc. Also, this case provided me with a great place to put a few of the 298 GoPro stickers they included, to make sure that thieves know exactly what they are getting without having to lose time opening the case to make sure it's not really an AKG microphone....

I found a great place to put the hundreds of GoPro stickers I've received too ... trash can. Just can't bring myself to advertise for them for no return. AND if the sticker is visible many stock agencies won't accept the photo/footage due to copyright logo. Trash can is the best place for them ;)
.
Oh I just received the two replacement HD2 and dive housing that leaked and destroyed both cameras. GoPro was easy to work with and replaced them with little problem. After all the new dive housing is not supposed to leak in a swimming pool let alone scuba diving.

Funny, but true...for me it's not so much advertising than a label, and covering blemishes (I found the mic case in the dump on the conveyor, along with a Mackie 24 channel mixer and Behringer V-verb (both work).....
Regarding the leak...being that I plan to stick this thing in the water (a lot), do you know what caused it? I already take their admonishments to inspect/clean the silicone seal prior to use, but I'd like to know how delicate they really are.
Because, for something "disposable" I'd still like to get my money out before drowning $400!

The actual front dive housing leaked and not the normal case seal. They claim it is very unusual. It was brand new, bought it a few days before heading to Mexico on a scuba diving trip. Good thing I took three GoPros. I ended up using my oldest original HD and regular water proof housing. Quality was not as good as I was hoping for.
