RED Scarlet

I'll be getting one as my next photo camera. If the video options are all they are cracked up to be, all the better. But I believe it's easily worth its price, even if you keep video out of the balance.

Red will have a "huge" announcement on November 13th for the Scarlet.
With this kind of hype, it must be good....... We'll see......

Not much info in this link but here it is:

Jake, the link does not work, it seems.

Yes, it seems they moved the forum to a new server that is having issues.

It was just saying that they will announce the scarlet on November 13th.
And everyone will be blown away by what they will say.
The release date is still some time in 2009 though.

I'm guessing a DSLR type thing to combat the new Canon or something with interchangable lenses.

hmm They are going to have to make major improvements for me to consider getting the scarlet. Like slow motion, huge sensor, changeable frame rate, and really low price. People should be getting the 5d soon, please post something when you start using the camera *ahem* normstock.... :)

Scarlet unveiled.
I believe it's too expensive once you get all the accessories. Even for the base model "brain". So back to either the 5D or one of the video cameras for me.
Looks cool though.

It seems they keep pushing it back and back... I like how on their flyer it says that the dates are subject to change and don't count on them staying the same!
ironstrike 13 Nov 2008 18:14
According to the chart the biggest sensor size for the scarlet is 36 X 24 which is the same as the 5d http://rebelsguide.com/dl/sensorSizes_06_cheatSheet.png ... Anything higher than that starts at 45,000 dollars (for the epic). I can most likely hack the firmware on the 5d and give myself manual control of the shutter etc, and compression artifacts can be fixed in after effects. So I will probably get the 5d, unless red changes it yet again....

I don't like how red seems so pretentious, they act like they are 3000 years ahead of everyone else. The also say they can "refuse business to anyone with a bad attitude." What??? I hate excessive hype, I just want the technical specs and the price.

Mark, If you can hack the firmware of the 5D. You would make a ton of money (unless canon sues) from people wanting that feature.
I can't believe Canon won't correct that one issue with the amount of people complaining about it on that 5d forum.

I guess we'll see what happens when the camera is actually in the real world being used.

I agree, they seem to be pretty smug in their attiude.

Its not too difficult, Im sure several people will do it.
Someone moded the firmware on a powershot camera to shoot raw files etc.
http://digicanon.narod.ru/

and someone known as Dataghost hacked a 40d still camera to shoot video:
