I have seen a lot of awesome stuff on vimeo from the bm4k camera. I bet after a firmware update it is really going to blow most cameras away.

Hey Rekindle..
Really can recommend the RED Scarlet-X. 4K is perfect. I had money down for the original 2K BMCC and just got fed up with the wait.. Seems like its the same with the 4KProdCam too. A shame as they are a fantastic company but RED have surpassed in every sense...

It seems that 4K is a best to program into the cameras and get a good clean result from the sensors. The Sony Z-100 was an example of not hitting the mark even though Sony and dozens of users show extremely good sample videos. For me it was too grainy and noisy from the sensor so I sent it back after a few weeks of using it. Same goes for the other companies. On the BMC the consensus is no higher than ISO 800 and then still has grain in shadows. The new Panasonic seems to have it's own problems too. I don't mind spending a lot for a good 4K camera, that's just part of the business. $10,000 plus is over my limit for stock. If I was a producer or shooter for a feature film or directly was contracted then the cost goes up.
I still do not think there has been a great stock 4K camera announced yet.

Rekindle: Which Panasonic are you referring to? What are the problems?

I wouldn't be able to buy a Red camera unless I was able to shoot eight hours a day and hope to make that money back, but I am to busy. I could buy the BM4K camera and make that money back. I am waiting for two things. One is for NAB to show the next lineup of cameras and two is the minor issues with the BM4k camera to be repaired, same as they were with the pocket camera. I am curious about the 'new canon 4k camera', but have to agree that they won't make something that will devalue the rest of their line. My guess is probably a 4k with compressed 8bit file, which may be great for a lot of people, but would be much worse in post than the BM4k files.
It isn't for everyone, but for the stuff I do it would be excellent. I use high quality cinema lenses on tracking systems and digitally controlled focus gears, which all takes a great deal of time per-shot to set up. For a run and gun cam, or an ENG cam, it obviously wouldn't be the best buy. It is a good balance of quality of PRODUCTION cam, with price.

The GH4 pricing announced at $1698! The interface allowing 10 bit 4K is $1998. The GH4 has it's own limitations and short falls at this point. 8Bit 4:2:0 and until real users start to shoot with it I really don't buy the hype yet. I jumped into the Sony Z-100 based on marketing and a few pro reviews when in actual use it was not ready for mainstream use. At less than $1700 I think they are trying to market to lower end use where based on price it'll be acceptable. Just MHO $1700 for a 4K camera is too cheap and therefore may have more limitations in actual use.
