Cheers, thanks for your comments - I suppose we're all anxious to get some high priced 4K out there....next stop NAB ;-)

Gh4 would crop all of my cinema lenses and the poor but rate really doesn't have any appeal for me, but maybe for a run and gun person. I don't intend to invest in four thirds lenses unless there are some major breakthroughs. Maybe for a bm pocket camera with no crop.

Like Rekindle I sent the Sony Z100 back - very disappointed!

I did however manage to pick up a little talked about and somewhat maligned JVC "4k" camera which will keep me going in the short term until we get a bit more clarity in the market. As with all 4K cameras it has pro's and cons but for less than half the new price it was too good a deal to pass up!

The money saved has / is being spent on a nice tripod, lights and a few other "toys".

What are the pro and cons of the jvc cam.
TheEngineer 9 Mar 2014 22:54
Pros
24p, 50p, 60p
Can remove the top handle so it looks like a consumer camera (for those places that don't allow pro filming)
Cheap (relatively) media
Price (picked up lightly used for just over $2,000 - got a heck of a deal!)
Video camera zoom lens
Video camera handling!
Records H264 144Mb/s so not absolutely massive file sizes

Cons
10x zoom (would have liked more)
Limited range of F stops
Records 4 HD quadrants that need to be combined before edit (Mac software only to do this) - can place in Premier Pro but fiddly.
No ND filters
Fixed lens
Records H264 144Mb/s so less tolerant of grading

Sounds like a good cam, but maybe less for cinematic shots. Thanks for information.

Is anybody using the Sony FDR-AX1? I'm thinking about getting one.

ODesigns has been using the AX1

@ConfluenceMedia - In this thread there are plenty of comments about the AX1.
