So if I'm thinking correctly ... the Canon 5D MK III has NO crop factor and the GH4 is about 2.3 crop factor as comparison. For my use on the 5D MK III the 70-200 f2.8 is seldom removed, it's my main and trusted lens. so the Lumix GX Vario 35-100 f2.8 would be equivalent to 80-230 mm so close to what I like. The Lumix GX Vario 12-35 f2.8 would be 27-80 . Even though I have a half dozen or more Canon L lenses I'm not sure an adapter is the way to go. For about $2,500 more I could have the lenses that are made for the GH4. Then for long shots I would assume a 2x extender would work on the long lens.

Really an investment of about $6,000 for the GH4, the two lenses and the Atomos Shogun isn't bad. It takes money to make money and 4K is the future I believe. Timelapse 4K from a dslr now is just a band-aid until the camera industry catches up. There is more to the 4K industry than timelapses.

Now to see if Canon will quickly come out with a 5D MK IV with 4K at 30 fps. That would sure make life a lot easier. The Canon 1D 4k at 24 fps and $10,000 just doesn't make the cut.

I wonder how the quality will compare to an adapter using Canon L lenses and these Lumix lenses.

Firstly crop is 2X. My main reason for a GH4 is 4K real time video at an affordable price and smaller lighter DSLR system, I'm getting older!!

Using an adapter won't alter quality unless it's a poor lens quality, I have used old Nikkor AI lenses on my 5D MKll very successfully, from what I have read the GH4 is going to come close to be a great camera for stills and video, bearing in mind by stills I mean getting past microstock inspectors who don't want ANY noise in the photograph. The reason the lens you quote 35-100 is their 70-200 version so photographers coming from full frame can identify with the focal length and the 2X crop. They also do a 24-70 version which is the 12-35. If you want wider angle them take a look at the Metabones adapters which will give a wider angle and wider aperture through their built in lens in the adapter.

I was going off this link http://nofilmschool.com/2014/02/4k-panasonic-gh4-uhd-30fps-24fps-price-cost/ when I was thinking about lens and crop comparison. Looks like about the best option at the moment.

I believe the 4K (as it doesn't use the full "width" of the sensor) is 2.3 crop and the UHD (3840x2160) is 2x crop.

^ Yes that's right plus no line skipping and for photos it's 2X

No line skipping means no moire?
Correct?

Canon needs to make an announce soon or a lot of photogs will have made the jump from Canon to the GH4. Kinda reminds me of several years ago when Nikon was way behind and thousands jumped from them to Canon. The market balance can change very quickly.
.
The big factor with me is the delay of the Atomos Shogun which I figure is critical to the package.

That Shogun will be released August or September they said. Sure wish it were sooner.

I was really disappointed with Canon this year. I thought they would have a more affordable DSLR in 4K. But all they had was that exact setup as last year for the 1dc with the guy showing how you can get printable stills from the video.
Well yeah as long as the model is sitting in a chair and not moving much.

Totally agree they were at the top with the 5D MKII and have rested after that. Now others are pushing up and passing them.

Yes, it's looking good for no moire.
Normstock 17 Apr 2014 14:24
Still some moire at 8 bit 4.2.0 but with an external recorder offering 10 bit 4.2.2. or 4.4.4 I would think moire is totally gone. Should beat the Canon 5D MK2 & 3 for moire when shooting internal with GH4 anyway.
