Nice to see the start of a result.

Also with regards to the lesson in copyright I totally agree. Speaking as someone who's "their" age (but hopefully not their kind) I can say I've had varying levels of ICT lessons that have gradually become more focussed on media programs for about 8 years and the only lesson I remember dealing with copyright was a single lecture on digital authorship with regards to photoshop about 2/3 months back.

With schools and colleges teaching more and more on how to use computer programs they need to think about teaching responsible use as well. I know copyright seems like common sense but common sense is surprisingly rare among my generation.

Cha CHing!!!! Bryans getting a new camera!!!!

I dunno Im near the same generation, im 26 years old, and I bought 3ds max (which is very expensive, and is the most ripped program on the planet I believe)....anyway I bought it a long while ago even though I was very poor at the time. I also have AE etc..

Its very difficult for me to be sympathetic to these people regardless of their age. I think they know its wrong. I mean you are taking something that is meant to be sold and trying to modify it and redistribute it to others for free.

you aren't going to get anywhere with sendspace... 'sparkles' are the least of their worries.
ironstrike 23 Apr 2010 00:12
hmm what if someone made some totally legal "sparkles" for them?
Is there anyway to make money off of that?

You could be like Hey kiddos don't rip off pond5, but here are some videos you all can use...but how to make $ off of it? Maybe that would send the wrong message.
cbertucio 23 Apr 2010 00:25
I feel honored, that I after one comment pointing out how they don't understand what "fair use" really means, I get my name in the "sparklers" blacklist of people to look out for.

I think their should be a message between the click at the comp-link and the download, explaining what the sample is intended for and what must not be done with it. Or make it only available to users who registered with P5 and are logged in.

Cheers,
Stefan

I have no sympathy for them either. They must be extremely stupid to not know what they're doing the giant watermark's a slight clue that it could be copyrighted. I doubt covering copyright in education would make that much difference but atleast they wouldn't be able to claim ignorance if their teachers could quote them saying "for f**k's sake we did this last year I know about copyright".

By all means take them to court, make an example of them but please try not to use a British court they'll probably get away scott free.

Only problem is if you sue, and they have no money! Copyright is such a grey area. I had a problem a few years back with a company that used footage on their website without asking, they re-edited and made it look like crap. The outcome was they had to take it down that was the only result.

I'm not seeing any info in this thread from Pond5, is there any kind of response from them?
