I'm on the fence about downsizing 4K to 1080 and I'm sure I won't do it. People being people will buy the cheaper version.
Unless you are pricing them both the same which I would do. (again my personal choice)
But what I am going to do is on our studio shoots I will have a second shooter with the GH4 covering different angles or tighter shots of what I'm shooting on the main camera.
I'll have both versions but not the same clip.
Anyway, it sounds good in my head but could be a bust.
EDIT:
My camera just changed to shipped.

Th trouble with the Sony RX10 (I was almost going to buy it) is the fact that the video quality can be hit and miss. Low light can be mushy too. The GH4 on the stills front has no real improvement for the ok-ish stills quality of the GH3 so I am back to square one. Who uses 4K ? Who has a PC that can handle 4K ? Most buyers here will only be interested in good footage, not particularly if it was shot on 4K.

The GH4 does improve stills quality over the GH3, especially low light.

But what would the GH4 cost with a decent wide angle to zoom lens similar to the Sony RX10 ?

It's not that type of camera, being an interchangeable lens camera system you select the right lens for the shoot and also the right quality. No single super zoom lens can give the quality of pro series lenses. All my Canon lenses are a maximum of f2.8, I have a bag full of lenses all for different uses. If the GH4 works out I will have the 12-35 f2.8 and the 35-100 f2.8 and for a small form factor and lowlight I have the 20 f1.7 This total system will fit into a Lowepro slingshot AW102 which is tiny.

At Wex Photographic:
GH4 £1299
12-35 f2.8 lens £829
This includes 20% VAT which, if you are VAT registered, is deductable straight away.
100% of the rest can be written off against tax in the first year.

Forget that then. Far too expensive when you are paying £829 for just one of the lenses you will need. I have all the lenses I need on my Nikon D 200 and can't be buying all over again. The Zeis lens on the Sony RX10 will match any of those lenses for quality for the GH4 you mention from wide to fully zoomed. Its just a shame the video doesn't.

Wow I just bought the 12-35 yesterday in Canada for the equivalent of 540 pounds ($999can), we can write down 30% per year depreciation.
