How to steal Videos from pond5…

ironstrike 23 Apr 2010 15:54
well the worst ones had HD versions available without the watermark, they are gone now. I dont care so much about the water marked versions being distributed.
time_lapse 23 Apr 2010 15:54
also, we shouldn't forget that Pond5 encourages use of our videos with the watermark on third-party sites. Each of our P5 pages has an embed code allowing for that. In addition, Pond5 distributes a free widget for displaying our watermarked videos on third-party sites. This is an enlightened marketing technique.

I have no issue with showing watermarked videos on youtube. Only the removal of the watermark is what I would take issue with.

People buy them, trade them with their friends, then decide to make a 'pack' available to others on line. They do this with photos, vectors and all sorts of other software. It sucks, but until a higher authority steps in, it will continue. Not trying to discourage you from trying Bryan, just think you are wasting your time.

Nah I'm not wasting my time... Allot of them stopped, or took down the files, youtube eventual removed multiple people that were distributing stolen work.
So in a day I and others from here got rid of multiple sources of pirated work, I don't consider that a waste of time. Sure there will be others after these people are gone but with the occasional backlash event I hope to stop more of them.
The ones I'm really interested in stopping now are the sites that host stolen work.

time_lapse, You mentioned that you had stuff taken from your website. Use VideoVista. I have place one of my clips at this address:

http://www.luxordreamsolutions.com/steal-me.htm

Try to steal it and edit it. See if you can break the encription security. It is also not cached. If you can't break the security features, this program may help you post videos on your site and you will not have to worry about Youtubers. They would need to film the screen to get the video.

I'm not sure you're losing a whole lot from loser kids who have nothing better to do than create "sparkle" videos. If you made the security bulletproof, they wouldn't purchase the videos anyway - they'd just look elsewhere for their time-wasting activities. so it's not like you're giving up $ when they use your stuff...though I agree that it's the principle of the thing. What a bunch of maroons. :)
bryanbush 23 Apr 2010 18:03
Maybe not much money but there was allot of them, so there is no telling if one or two out of the thousands of views some of them had were adults who might buy. Regardless I just don't want my work given out like a prize. I have a youtube account and I don't pass my stuff out on it to get subscribers. Plus I sell really cheep, even kids could afford my prices. Also these kids will be our future video editors, and they should get used to paying to look cool if that's what they want.
ironstrike 23 Apr 2010 18:17
Well now they have doubt about posting clips like that. I think this was a huge favor to them by getting them (and their videos) removed....That little idea of "doubt" about this whole sparkle thing being legit is obviously a lesson they have never been taught by a parent or a teacher.

Yes. Very good work, Bryan.

Guys, just an update on this. We've submitted takedown requests for all the youtube stuff we could find about removing the watermark or otherwise ripping off the low res previews. If you come across anything else, please let us know and we'll get it removed.

We're also cleaning up the watermark to make it more difficult to do this sort of thing. We'll be updating all of the preview files soon.
