Sony RX0 mk2

Anyone have any hands-on experience with this camera? Sony RX0 mk2 not mk1.

I'd like to hard mount it to a vehicle. So far the GoPro Hero7 works, but I hate hate hate the GoPro "look" and compression. Stabilization need not be "perfect" but resolution/dynamic range and NO jello a must.

(Also if I read specs right I can output clean 4K via HDMI from the RX0mk2 to my recorder, whereas I can only output HD from the Hero7)

I have literally 2.3 weeks before trip start!

Thanks for info.

I'm seeing now it's unobtainium so moot point before the trip. The question I'll try to answer today is: Will the Hero7 pay for itself and maybe a future RX0 mk2 (or equivalent) so that when I sell the Hero7 at a loss in future I'll be OK with it, or should I send this piece of offal back now while I can?

Yeesh.

A 1-inch sensor in a camera that size has the potential to really up the quality of action camera footage. Better in low light, better overall image quality, some interesting depth-of-field possibilities... lots of potential.

Where are you going gene??anyway buy a serious mount and place a serious camera on it!!!!

Plus...on camera stabilization do nothing against jitter...better to find a proper mount..

Short couple week road trip to Hyder Alaska, via the Stewart-Cassiar Highway (done that one a lot, but never gone to Hyder) via Haines on the way up and back through Skagway. Besides the standard stuff, I'm looking for some more reliable POV shots to harvest.

Yeah, the RX0mk2 would be better, but I can't get it in time. I've tried the RX100m4, but it's too finicky and the road crud gets into the lens leaves. I have a big box with a hood and watertight for X70 or similar, but I don't want to bring it ..this trip is too crowded with gear already. I will be using the Mavic 2 Pro, strapped to the vehicle, but a 3-axis gimbal is hell to keep on track on a road (plus they flatten out hills and overshoot corners, blowing the effect)

I've been mounting cameras to cars since 2002, and the best results are hard mounted with isolation/dampeners (for general work) but need an active operator if on a 3 axis gimbal, so I won't/can't while driving.

Saw a friend's Hero7 hard mounted to airplane wing shot with no jello. This is RAD. My tests so far show the stabilization really works ... but the heavy compression of the Gopro is bunk, and sadly, the HDMI output is limited to HD. Driving with the camera on a triple suction cup OSMO mount (actually the best thing I ever bought from DJI .. the mount, not the OSMO RAW) on rough/gravel road shows no jitter. So that's a plus anyway. If the vehicle pitches too much, it shows, but it's not bad.

Exposure lock is a MUST though ... hell, this should be its own thread.
