Copyright issues

No problem, Mizamook.

GuitarChildren, contact Pond5 and the administration of the other sites. They will contact the artists and in case of no answer they might disable the relevant clips. This process is very slow, however it will be interesting to know the results.

Another thought: 30s-40s clips may be too old to be copyrighted. Maybe they are in the public domain. However they need permission from admin to sell public domain on Pond5.

Another point: price variation is very common.

the definitions of copyrights, use, resale, and transfer are already defined.

you have different types of production. I do not recall the names of all of them, but one example is called a 'mechanical license'.

each license permits something different. you have a license to use to product to build a new product that is reproduced in physical form, such as using a photo for the cover of a CD album. you have a license for presenting the work to an audience. you have another license for broadcasting the work to many people.

the key about royalty free work is that you are not the owner of what you are paying for, but you have the right to use it.

the pond5 license could allow you to do any number of things (but they don't), such as resell the video, broadcast it on tv, use it in a performance to a live crowd, etc, but they do not permit all of these things. they restrict the concept of reselling it because it competes with the original work.

here are some examples of music licenses:
Mechanical Record a song that someone else wrote on audio only, not video.
Synchronization Record a song that someone else wrote and put it to video.
Master Use an existing recording that someone else made.
Public Performance Perform in public a song that someone else wrote.
Print Reprint the sheet music or lyrics of a song that someone else wrote.
Theatrical Perform a theatrical production of a song that someone else wrote.
