Using other people's work?

What's the position here on using an element from someone else's work in your own?

Suppose I bought some footage of snow falling from another Pond5 contributor, and then put it into footage of my own to sell here - is that against the rules?

Cheers!

Short answer is you can't do it.
You must own everything in the video.

Unless you have an agreement with the other artist to use it as a collaboration.
This is something we've asked for here to share the revenue of a collaboration.

If someone asked me to use one of my excellent snow falling clips in a composite that they would sell, after they paid for the clip, I'd probably say yes.

But only if asked. Hey, a sale is a sale.

But that's me. If I did not insist on revenue sharing, I might ask for trackback link in the description of the composite.

I wouldn't mind if someone used my snow falling clip as well, but as kk5y and Mizamook said, if they asked first. You'd want to know beforehand if you came across what look like an element of your clip on someone else's portfolio to avoid any problems.

In the new version of pond5 you can download watermarked mp3 preview files. Feel free to use this music in your items. Please don’t forget to link to the music in your description, and shoot me an email when it’s online.
