HD 1920 versus 1440

Do buyers prefer to buy 1920x1080 over 1440x1080, and if so, why?

It's my understanding that the only difference is the pixel aspect ratio (square vs rectangular), but in the end, the picture is still 16:9 and still looks the same. So is there any difference? Should I be converting to 1920x1080?

yes the 1440 is the unprocessed compressed data. I think you will find that processing to 1920x1080 will sell better. For the non-professional producer type buyers they will want a processed clip that all they have to do is cut to the best part for their use and then minor adjustments. Just MHO. Good luck.

Yeah I'd agree with Don, all my HDV footage I processed to 1920x1080. Funnily, my best selling clip which I uploaded in my early days of stock, I uploaded in 1440. But it sells well due to the content not the aspect ratio!

I don't think most buyers even see, understand, or care about the differences between 1440 and 1920.

I think the same goes for frame rates.

Disagree on frame rates!

I just know myself, an educated and experienced seller AND buyer, I've been "burned" by frame rates. I'd find a clip that fit my needs and bought it only to find out after the fact it's 25 fps. It's a bit of a hassle to get it work in my 29.97 fps project.

But I got it to work, so no harm no foul.

It was my own fault; I didn't look closely enough at the file's details. I was only looking at the clip's preview and bought on that impulse.

Thanks for the replies! I will be exporting as 1920x1080 from this point on. I don't see any benefit to exporting 1440x1080. And besides, some stock sites incorrectly interpret 1440x1080 (with rectangular 1.33 pixels) as 4:3. So if anyone else is reading this and wondering, just save yourself the hassle -- export 1920x1080.

i uploaded large numbers of videos in all sizes, I have one video in 8 different sizes. if I had to do it over again, I would have just done 1 in HD and 1 in SD.

the bulk of stock video sales probably end up on sites like youtube. I dont think they need 1920x1080. I bought 90% of my stock videos at 1920x1080, perhaps 200 videos, and rendered the finished products at 720x480 for TV.

as for 1440x1080, I can't get it to display properly with quicktime or quicktime pro, no matter how many settings I try.
