Sony NEX-7 Discussion

This camera looks like a possible solution for my new B camera, portable, discrete (depending on which lens is on it, of course) and shoots the same codec (I like AVCHD 60fps 28Mb/s)as the FS700, similar sensor (same size anyway), shares lenses, etc. Probably play nice with the FS700. Doesn't have the fancy codecs of the BlackMagic Pocket cam, but has a bigger sensor, probably easier on batteries, electronic viewfinder, etc.

Thoughts? Experiences? Disparagement?

Thanks!

This site has some video samples: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX7/NEX7VIDEO.HTM

Downloaded the 60p file, with the woman and dog. Is that ALIASING I see in the asphalt? Gawd, but I hate aliasing! Opinions on the level of this requested. How does it compare to other (similar) cameras?

Downloaded the 60p night shot of traffic on street. Noise. Yeah, well, noise happens at high ISO. Noise is not that big of a deal - depending on the settings used for this shot, which unfortunately not specified.

Hm.
Don't really see any aliasing in the first video.
Noisy as fuck in the second one.
It has the same price as the small BMC but a bigger sensor (2x to be exact).
Not impressed.

I looked again....still think I see aliasing....which would kill the deal for me more than noise....they probably jacked up the gain to shoot the night shot....which is not a fair example.

Interchangability of lenses counts for a lot. Not a fan of 2x crop factor - would rather have full frame, but APS-C I can deal with.

I'd probably buy it used (around $700) and the cost of using would be less than the BMC mini. Research continues. Other little cams are out there too.

Don't need/want to spend a huge amount, either.

The Sony RX100 at $699 is producing some great video, reviews say you can splice RX100 into Canon 5D MKll footage without seeing a difference and it is shirt pocket size.

Intriguing. Had a pocket Sony once, loved it to death. Still have it. It's still dead. Don't hold your point and shoot out the window when you're in caravan in Nevada and Arizona on dirt roads....

Anyway, love the concept - I'll look into it, thanks!

I'd sure love it if there was a teeny form factor camera, big sensor, decent codec, that came with a removable pancake wide- moderate tele zoom (f1.4 or faster, parfocal, manual while I'm dreaming) that was so flat it was barely noticable, and then could also support bettter/bigger lenses....dream on, right?
