My First 200 (or so)

Mizamook 30 Mar 2011 08:28
I've perused these forums a bit, and from what I understand it is a matter of time, patience, quantity, and of course, quality, pricing, and keywording. I've been doing this for a month now....constantly shooting, editing, uploading, and keywording. P5 is my base of operations....I'm trying a couple others but they are not set up nearly as well!

Haven't had many views, and no sales as yet.

Now that I have enough up to show what my tendencies are as per the last three items on the above list, I would ask of you so inclined whether I should keep going as I am or are there areas in which I could use immediate improvement.

Besides learning how to say things in fewer words....

Mainly....keywording and pricing...the clips' style, variety, and quality will naturally improve!

Thanks,

Gene

Now when you are confident that you can sell clips on P5, just raise your prices and you will make more money.

Thankee, Folks! Very nice to hear encouraging words.

That sale made my day.

@wideweb, is it that I am priced in general too low? Besides making money, I don't want to be part of the de-valuing of stock footage!

Thanks again,

Gene

Great job Gene!

Yes, Mizamook, I believe your prices are too low. Go to "Artist Resources" link below. Check out "best this month" and "best this week" and you will see that clips just like yours are selling for $200 and above. You will get less sales, which is frustrating, but higher bottom line at the payday.

BTW, what is the meaning of your nickname?

Thanks Andy!

Wideweb, thanks for the info. I've seen those artist resources, and pored over them, as well as having spent lots of time looking around at various clips and their prices. One resource I really appreciate here on P5 is being able to see both page views (which is probably misleading) and also the amount of downloads each clip has had.

I will probably go through and selectively raise prices on what I believe are my better clips. Based on what I've seen, some low priced clips sell a lot, while similar ones sell once, or few times. But then there are certain clips that see lots of action regardless of price, and sometimes it doesn't seem related to content or quality! So many variables, so little time....

My nickname, Mizamook, is a modification of a fictitious character in a book. If you like good fantasy, and I mean GOOD!, then check out Tad Williams' Dragonbone Chair, 1st in an epic trilogy. The character was an Eskimo-like princess, a Qanuc chick, with a very difficult and groovy name. Something like Sisqui - something-mizamook something like that... We named our first cat after her, and then when we got our first email account, Mizamook was not taken, as I made it up kinda. Since then, Mizamook became a name I knew could be mine, and so it is.

Teach you to ask questions, eh?

Thanks for asking!
