New GoPro Black 4K

Looks like they redesigned the GoPro 3 and now does 4K at a small resolution, camera is 30% smaller http://www.bhphotovideo.com/indepth/gopro/news/unveiled-new-gopro-hero3-cameras-mounts-and-accessories?cm_mmc=EML-_-NewAnnouncement-GoProHERO3Announcement-_-131001-_-Body_Indepth_Hero3+Camera-ReadMore

Seems to be a disappointing upgrade.
4k is still only 15fps, was hoping for 30

The "almost" live view streaming to the iPhone/iPad is cool but not worth another camera for me.

Still only 15 fps.

Looking over the specs again. There isn't much different from my GoPro 3
Except for a wider view, better battery life and the almost live streaming. .
Very disappointing

Perhaps they had to release a new model because the previous black model had some battery issues and locking up.

Could be.
The battery in mine lasts a very short time.

I just shot with Black 3 original and was able to get over 1 1/2 hours that was broke up into four clip segments. Not bad. I don't like the current wide view and always use medium. The wide just distorts too much. I was using a second backup battery attached. I see no advantage at all.

GoPro is using the marketing product plan of Apple, just think of this in the same terms as an iPhone 5, nice but not earth shattering additional functions, it's all about the marketing and moving inventory.

@Rekindle............I don't care for the bent banana horizon of GoPro footage, you can always tell a GoPro clip as soon as you see it.

Been looking at the comparison footage (Hero3 vs Hero3+) and there are several side-by-side shots that were done in conditions which clearly shoe the H3+ is turning out better footage. I swore I hated GoPro for the crap that went down with the Black, but the fact that I am seemingly successfully negotiating a long-term relationship with a local bush pilot, and I can't get 4K yet, maybe I need to grab me up one of these new GoPros. Looks like a lot less distortion, less noise, unsightly flare, etc.

Having just come back from a California trip with lots of unsatisfying Hero3 footage (many for the reasons listed above, plus lousy light when it was all working fine, otherwise) I think it might make sense, even now, when I "could" wait another few months or so (November?) for the rumored "Hero4K"

Some of the issues I was having are related to microSD cards not living up to stated performance, apparently. And yeah, the battery life sux, still. Hard to deal with that on a plane, except run a long USB cable.

I forgot to mention that none of the tests/comparisons vs the H3 Black I saw were using ProTune, which is a pretty serious omission. Can't really tell much, so I'm all ears to know if the differences extend to that as well. (I always use ProTune)
