yeah on the 5d forums people have made shoulder mounts. Im still looking for ideas for a DIY rig. Ive made some cool prototypes but they don't work well .... yet.

Cool DOF test.
I just ordered a follow focus set that fits on the rails for my DOF adaptor. I can also use if for the FX1 or the Canon when I get that.

FYI here is a list of m42 lenses that work with the 5d:

I've been looking at those rack focus systems too Jake. What I did see is someone used zip ties, or something that sticks out, and then you can position the focus at say 5 oclock and then zoom it to the 10 oclock.

I plan on doing an electric focus and Zoom. I have these tiny little actuators from a company called danmixel. They can be controled via a computer or microcontroller. This will allow me to presetup a shot then repeat it.

I will write something up once I get things going with it. I write articles for Nuts and Volts magazine in case any of you read them. Here is a link to my web site as well as to some of the articles that I have done:

The ultimate remote shown on the main page will probably be used to control my monstrosity when its done.

Here is a the robot from a 6 part series I just did for Servo magazine.
