2K format?

Is there any real interest in clips with higher resolution than HD1080? I could do most of my time lapse clips in 2K (2048x1556p24) - soon even in 4K formats. But obviously the file size would be extreme.
Anyone interested?
If so, what kind of file format and codecs should be used?

The main interest would be for compositors who want to be able to composite zooms, or crop out a high-res section of a clip. If your clip is amenable to this, then it's generally a good idea to go as high-res as possible.
That said, if you provide 1920x1080 clips, we will be able to automatically generate the lower-res previews in standard 16:9 formats. With larger clips, we probably won't. So for now, I would say stick with 1920x1080.
