Any problem with using the Photo PNG format to preserve the alpha channel when uploading videos? Or is a seperate mask file attachment required?

For clips with an alpha channel, please use the Animation codec, which supports alphas. The file will be a little bigger, but much easier for downloaders to work with.

Wow, the animation codec can make stuff look like real crap. Even at 100%/Best quality and using QuickTime Pro for conversion.
I've got some stuff with gradiants and all the various JPEG options decimate the quality.
The only codec that preserves the smoothness is PNG and the file size is within 1% of JPEG.
I'm curious as to why you're opposed to PNG...?

Hmm, Animation codec at 100% is lossless, so there should no quality degradation whatsoever. It may have something to do with your NLE settings...
PNG is also an excellent format for alpha-enabled clips, and we are currently working on adding it to our system. For the moment, though, you'll need to stick with Animation.

The problem I'm having with the animation codec is a static gradiant background...
I'll mess around with it some more this weekend. I'm probably doing something wrong.

Curater asked me to render files containing alpha channel with Animation Codec in future. Can anyone help me and explain what this "animation codec" is, and where I can find it.
I'm producing with 3DS Max and finalize my videos with After Effects.

If your using Quick Time Pro to upload your clips. Animation is listed at the very top of the compression settings

Any progress on PNG? Or is it not gonna happen?
