Canon 5D Rumors

Looks like Canon is finally pulling their head out of the sand and ready to catchup. Solid rumors (official announcement later this week 6 Feb) has a new 5Ds using a Sony sensor. Highlights is still 1080 HD video, Anti-flicker, 50.6 MP CMOS, Selectable crop of full sensor, 1.3x and 1.6x, 61 point AF. Still no 4K in this low end model.
The 5D MK IV may be announced around August 2015. It is rumored to have about 25 MP sensor, possible video auto focus, 4K video, Dualpixel fullframe full time active AF in 4K shooting.
So maybe I can save my L lenses and hold out a little longer.

I am waiting as well. I believe, however, that for video autofocus you will need to buy new lenses, because there is nothing inside the current lenses that can drive them accurately enough for the life of the battery.

Canon is so far behind the times they forced me to leave them behind (at least for the moment). I just ordered my GH4 with a metabones speed adapter (for my canon lenses) and it arrives today. I cannot wait until august to enter the 4K market. And if Canon stays true to what they have been doing the last few years they will once again disappoint everyone and not introduce 4K video in the camera. Don't get me wrong. I hope they do but I have stopped having faith in them as a company. Everything they are doing indicates that they are leaving 4K for there higher cinema line. If they introduce 4K in the 5d Mark iV then what happens to their expensive cinema cameras. Even their newly released $5,000 C100 cannot shoot 4K. They just dropped the 1DC to an extremely affordable (sarcastic) price of $8,000. If they release a 5D Mark iv with 4K at $3,500 what happens to all these other cameras that they just recently updated or released?
Like I said, I have been holding out for ages now hoping that they get their act together because I have always used Canon and have probably $10,000 invested in Canon glass. But having lost all hope I jumped ship and went for the GH4.

And to keep with the disappointing Canon tradition this new camera will be 8 bit, 4.2.0 with a crap codec.
I feel very sure about that.

WOW a 50mp with low 8 bit. I personally don't see the need for this kind of mp, more of a marketing game. When Canon came out with 5D MK II they surpassed all other makers, same with 5D MK III. A lot of Nikon shooters jumped ship because Nikon was obsolete in a sense. GH4 woke everyone up. Nikon just released a couple new cameras, again no 4K for still holding back. At least Canon is now realizing they are losing market loyalty. The C series are for the higher end shooters and although they sold a lot of them they were not mainstream. The million unit sales is high end consumer market. I just can't see Canon doing a 5D MK IV without 4K at at least 30fps. If so Panasonic will own the world. I'm very happy with the Sony AX-100. Easy to use and shoots great footage. Don't have to worry about changing lenses and dust bunnies. I can wait til August if needed to see. It just has to be a cleaner and sharer photo maker than the 5D MK II and III or won't buy it.
I don't think the 5D MK IV can be more than the historical new camera prices of about $3,400. That is twice the GH4 so I think Panasonic has now set the playing field on capabilities and prices. We'll see, maybe at NAB.

Here's a review of announced 5Ds. http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canon-eos-5ds-sr.

Other than the sensor crop capability, not much else excites me at this point for Stock footage. The photo side if everything works as described looks pretty good. They said a couple of times that the 5D MK III is still a better camera. Go figure ....

If Canon is coming out with a 4K 5D mark IV NAB would be the place to showcase it. I'm in the same boat, invested in Canon gear and would like to see them come out with at least a GH4 offset. Well 60 something days till NAB and we'll have a better idea.
