Which video camera would you get now?

I want to get a video camera (not a dslr) for shooting stock only but I'm having a tough time deciding which one makes the most sense. I've been looking at the ax100, sony hxr-nx3/1, sony hxr-nx5u, panasonic hc-x1000, canon xf300 but I'd be open to any other suggestions in a similar price range. I'll mainly be shooting on a tripod. Thank you for any help with this.

I love my ax100 for 4k. Sony came out with another one recently that is a little cheaper and seems to have all the options as the ax100.

I also have an FS700 + Odyssey 7Q for 4k RAW but that thing is just too cumbersome to do daily run and gun stock with.

Whats your budget? the Sony A7S looks nice with a 4k external recorder, if you need 4k (but this is more DSLR style)

My budget is around $3000. I don't want a camera I have to change lenses with. The ax100 does look good and it's the least expensive option so that's what I'm leaning towards now. Can you recommend a good video head for it?

I also use the AX-100. Very happy. Shortly there should be an announcement of for new Canon 5D MK IV with 4K. The AX-100 shoots excellent video, the photos are very poor and not really suitable for anything other than Facebook or personal photos.

What tripod would you recommend for it? How is editing 4k? I have a PC so I would probably use Premiere CC unless there is a better option.

I've decided that the ax100 is the best option for me. thank you for your comments here and in the other threads about it. I'm going to open another thread with some questions I still have.

I'd go with the PXW-X70 over the AX100. The AX100 has some lame shortcomings (inability to external monitor or record when shooting 4K, inability to control picture profiles. The X70 requires a paid 4K upgrade, but in the end I think will be way worth it due to better control over a lot of things. Unless something else comes up, I'll be buying one within the next quarter... I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong, as I'll have over a year with the AX100, and will know the difference.

If you have decided to buy a 4k prosumer cam,at least give it some time until the end of NAB.You may regret the ax100 desicion very soon if you hurry to buy a 4k prosumer cam right now.

About the tripod, it depends on budget and whether you will need to buy a heavier camera in the future or not, but for starters i would at least suggest something like a benro S4 head or a manfrotto MVH500A and a set of aluminium legs (you could also do manfrotto) close to 300usd (do some research on legs).

Those tripod heads are very inexpensive are they smooth enough to give quality results?

For the budget and the camera you mentioned in most occasions yes, although i would start with a 1000usd budget for tripod and head as a minimum.
