what are the characteristics of backlots videos/ media?

Is anyone "in the know" what makes a video/ media file suitable for the backlot pool?
I saw it used as keyword, but when does it make sense to use it?

Not sure anyone knows. Many are normal HD clips. Some are HD clips stitched panorama with uneven tops and bottoms. Someday there may be a need for 8K but most don't fit that ... so wish P5 would tell us what it means other than an individual being marketed more than others.

Hmmm. I have no idea, but my impression was somehow, that their point was to have clips that could be put together as backdrops (at any resolution in the final result e.g. someone needs a certain city backdrop or a certain outdoor scene etc).
But then it might help with same specs, e.g. maybe focal length and known tilt (?).
The clips that have the keyword (and do show up when searching it) do look like other clips that do not have that keyword. The stiched ones as far as I could see, have extremely little movement in them (it is obviously a difficult thing to do with people walking by, cars and so on, I guess it would be easier to make the backdrop from photos and fake-in some movement like cars, people etc.). It might not make sense.
I also saw a (nice looking) HD clip with a regular pattern, that as such seems hard to stich with others, given likelihood of what is in the library....
Not sure what those keywords are about and the 2 backlot collections either.
Once 8k has more demand (in 5 years after everyone got her 4k TV, remember those have to be sold first), the demand will first be for stellar clips that show-off 8k, stitched together with current technology is not really the answer(?).
But anyhow, it would be good to give some guidelines for submitters. I think that communication between submitters and Pond5 is not always optimal and wastes each others (and potential customer) time.

Everytime I ready backlot I think universal studios :-)
Do these clips even sell? They were hyped like the new best thing, but I searched through a few with very little sales.

So help explain what makes these "Backlots" different than normal footage. These are just a couple quick grab from the P5 front page link to Backlots:
https://www.pond5.com/it/stock-footage/50034226
https://www.pond5.com/it/stock-footage/43422582
https://www.pond5.com/it/stock-footage/542494
https://www.pond5.com/it/stock-footage/43431645 ... ooppps night time of the copyright lights on Eiffel Tower as primary subject.
So someone help to describe how these are "special" and not just normal everyday footage clips??

I guess you could easily green screen someone in front of them and make them look like they are on the scene... the only one that looks semi right is the 2nd one, except the angle is weird.

Why not ask Pond5 and see what they say? The first three don't seem to qualify based on what P5 expects as backlots, But then again, why wouldn't someone use a 1280x720 for such a purpose (see the cactus one? Probably just used the keyword backlot to spam the engine for backlot seekers)?

It was also uploaded in 2009 and he might have used it as a keyword to really describe that clip, and then this whole backlot thing started.

Digital Backlots are heavily advertised in two prominent locations on the front page of P5. Still no answer from P5 on what makes them so different or special. I guess every clips here at P5 needs the keywords "Digital Backlots" added to data???
P5 can you help us Artists and explain why a majority of the clips listed under this subject are ordinary clips with nothing special? This subject has been asked since they first chowed and no explanation to either buyers or sellers. It's easy to see the rough edged stitched clips but not the SD and HD clips.
