4k @ 29.97fps when sold as HD is 30fps.

Just noticed tonight that the 4k clips @ 29.97 fps show the HD downconverted version as 30fps. This is probably not a good thing I would think.

Keeps surprising and amazing us ... Sure seems that format, fps etc etc should stay the same as the original. If 29.97 fps then should stay that, if uploaded as PJPEG then should stay that way. If ProRes then should stay that way when down converted. Oh my, maybe some day the Artists will be explained to on why and why and why ... Maybe someday instruction on how to increase quality and not a surprise with changes with no information or instruction. We all want to do the best, we all would love guidance from the best and brightest at P5.

I upload all footage at 30fps now instead of PAL or NTSC. I think it should be the future fps standard. The world need one standard on the internet. :)

Jonathan ... what does P5 think is the best for sales ... 29.97 or 30 fps. When P5 shows a clip at 30 fps is it really 30 or is it 29.97?

I'll ask one of our video experts about this. I do know there's an issue with the frame rates on previews not matching the full versions of the items, which can be a big headache for some buyers when working with the material on a timeline. But the team does know about that, and I know it's being addressed, but I'm not sure if this is related to that or not.

I shall return with more info. :)

It's a confirmed issue on both counts. Both the issue you guys are reporting, and the one I mentioned about previews are being addressed.

I don't know that one is better than the other, but the displayed FPS should be what it says, yes. I think the crux of both problems is the inconsistency.

Any editor will not worry about such mundane issues. In today's editing software, frame rates of all sorts are used and mixed without issue. The transcoding, re-framing and re-sizing tools simply take care of all of this without issue.

FYI, we just patched the servers to show the accurate frame rate for downconverted clips.

Thanks jonas! That was quick!
