Private plane footage

I've wondering where movie companies get their stock footage of private planes in midair. This seems quite common in movies and at least two clips of the Gulfstream G550 in every episode of Criminal Minds. I was looking through the footage on P5 and noticed there was no midair footage at all, only stationary, take off, and landing.
I imagine this would be difficult to do with FAA regulations regarding drones etc. I assume these are taken with those special helicopter mounted cameras.
I don't have the gear or budget to do these kind of shoots, but I'm just curious about it.

Surely helicopter!
I also wonder how aerial flying (night) shots over cities like NY or else are taken. I think it's absolute forbidden to use drones in cities.

There are high quality gyro stabilized systems that are mounted on helicopter noses that are usually used for this. They are huge and very good. Here is an example of one https://www.axiomimages.com/production-services There are other iterations you can rent as well. I can only guess, but usually you are hired to do a job and then have outtakes for use as stock.

Thanks for the feedback. It would be interesting to do if one had the budget.

Some years ago I went to see a talk by the guy who put together the main aerial promo videos for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Very interesting. He had a heck of time getting a system that would be stable enough. Not sure where he found it, but it was video system with a gyro that is used on tank turrets for rough ground accurate firing at high speeds. It was amazing -- he took a shot into the sun with a 500mm lens in a flying helicopter and it looked like it was sitting on a 50 pound tripod. It's a 4 man rig. Pilot, camera operator, directional controls and director. Not quite my league.

Most of them are CGI and the pilots are shot on greenscreen much cheaper then to actually rent the jet and helicopter. Saw this in a making of's a couple of times. It looks real but it's not.

I thought the same, nowadays, you can film a model plane, greenscreened a pilot inside, put moving sky background.
