Serious competition for gopro.

A very promising replacement for the gopro hero black. Most action cameras that are half the price also have about half the options and value as the gopro black. This seems to have it all but half the price.

GoPro is all but dead unless they drop prices and have an incredibly strong bunch of new needed features.

Yep GoPro has gone to sleep. New Yl cam looks interesting but no mention of whether its waterproof or housing options.
Website didnt make mention of attachment options either.

They made an announcement that their future was software. No mention of drone systems.

@birkley,

Its funny they don't mention that. I looked at their cheaper earlier model and it comes with an underwater housing case good to 40M. It also has all the different attachments like gopro. If I was in the market I would sure be looking at this. The biggest bonus for me is that the battery lasts twice as long. My gopro is horrible when it comes to battery life. Especially if you are skiing or doing something in the cold. It seems to last 15 minutes tops.

gopro did great when they first came out and then with dji using gopros in their early drones it gave the company an additional boost but now that dji makes their own cameras for their drones and a drone is as cheap as a gopro people buy drones instead. gopro had the ability to dominate the drone market a few years ago but I guess they were to busy. All my early footage was with gopro and those clips still sell well but it camt compre to the quality of a dji ronin or osmo.

Very interesting but no word about manual controls and codec. How many M/Bits per second on each resolution? How to control the camera settings when it's in a waterproof case?

What's a GoPro?

It's way past time when the company needed to drop the surfer dude and get a business savvy leader in place. He did good to get it started since he wanted a camera to play with that was not then available. Good thing Chinese engineers and technology were up to the task.

GoPro innovation and time to market is just too slow. With the competition in camera and technology, companies don't have the time to sit on things this long. Same goes for things like stock agencies. So much competition that being stale or the same too long looks like innovation has stopped.

Biggest problem was promises made to the industry about their new products. A company can't break too many promises with time delays or their credibility will suffer greatly. That is what has happened at GoPro. If they hurry and release a drone and new GoPro camera soon they might be able to recover to a more neautral position in the industry.
