Ikan EC-1 Beholder Gimbal

I returned the DS-1 and just received the new EC-1 gimbal. It has a higher weight capacity of up to 5 pounds. It is also much easier to balance. Get it close and the motors are strong enough to do the rest. It will rotate in all directions 360 degrees.

So far I only did a quick test with my Canon 1DX MKII with a small 50mm lens. It was not able to stabile it. I suspect the size not the weight causes the problem. I only have the original single handle and with the camera it really is too heavy to carry with one hand.

I did a real quick test with the Sony RX-10 II in the house and it seems to work much better.

When using the pan toggle it pans too fast. I believe there is a software solution to slow the pan down.

Tomorrow I will try it with the Canon 5D MK III and my Sony RX-10 II more fully.

Returned mine after one day and a few dozens of different setups with 3 different cameras.Had tremors and small tilts every time in every setting which as far as i could tell were being caused by the tuning philosophy of that gimbal (and thats how they kind of broke it down to me, a bit more gently, after exchanging a few emails with them).

The problem with these types of gimbals that claim they can fit all types of cams from 200grams to 2+kilos is that if they dont come up with tuning app like dji does they propably will have more trouble balancing different setups as opposed to gimbals that cannon lift much weight, like the ones that can do arounf the 1 kilo or more.
Actually they fail to do exactly what they were meant to by trying to accomodate for all these scenarios.

My ds1 on the other hand works way better exactly because of it's inability to accommodate very heavy setups so the pid settings work for more combinations, which is ironic.Plus it has profile 4 and 5 for light setups which the ec1 has not since it can claim to lift all cams with the same pid's.
Too bad the ds1 cant do dutch angles or correct the horizon by hand like the ec1, that was a goddamned killer feature that i will miss.

I will stick with the ds1 it works for 90% of the setups i am doing.
For your camera rekindle i believe that only a bigger gimbal like the ronin m will work. And yes it's the size, these gimbals need very evenly distributed mass regardless of their weight,a detail that these companies fail to mention.

And dont try to fool around with simplebccgui unless you know what youre doing if you get it wrong youre screwed.Try the beholder user group on facebook to see what i mean.

I had one of these models and sent it back... couldn't ever get it to work right and it wasn't as smooth as I wished. Too expensive to not be 100% happy with it.

It will not stabilize the 1DX MK II even though it is within the weight limit. My guess it's due to size.

Also on my Sony RX-10 II there is interference that causes the view screen to black out. Turned off it shows, remove it and it works. Install and power the gimbal and the screen blanks.

I do like the ability to manually move the camera to the point I want and it stabilizes it there. The motors are stronger and the basic balance is not as critical as DS-1.

I really like the 360 gimbal and just flip it upside down and it's fully stabilized with no additional steps needed.

So I see some positives over the DS-1 but electrical interference is not acceptable.

Don check to see if you have the finder/monitor in auto instead of manual. Sound like the sensor in the viewfinder is activating which will shut the LCD off.
