Editing footage from DSLR

As i await the arrival of my 4k video camera, i have been picking some really nice footage with a dslr NIKON D3100. when you view raw footage in a computer or any screen, they are top notch. clear and smooth. but when i import the same on a timeline (Adobe CS3) for editing, it calls for rendering. The end product is not what i would call good work. I am using settings as .....HD 1080P, 25fps, photo jpeg, no field (progressive). Am i missing something? they are really special clips of macro lens. (stick insect getting angry) input would be greatly appreciated.

Could be that your CS3 software doesn't have the necessary codecs for 4K footage. Adobe no longer support CS software and you will have to upgrade to CC and pay the monthly fee if you want to continue to use Adobe products.

Hi Steve! Sounds like what jason is talking about... probably a codec issue.

How does the footage look when you bring it into CS3? Does it play back just as good as the computer media player?

Also CS3 I do not believe had support for h264, so I'm surprised it even let you import the footage.

Also, if you are going with 4k you are going to run into a lot more issues with that CS3. Why not subscribe to the cloud? I think for 1 software it is ~$20. Just get premiere.

@ dapoopta cc offer photoshop & illustrator for $20, Lightroom & photoshop for $9 and all adobe apps for $49.

Hi Dapoopta!! long time. When i import to the timeline, it shows red line instead of green. which means i have to render the clip. after that it drops in quality badly, and does not play smooth anymore. at raw, it is fabulous. which other editing software would you recommend other than going for CS6? What is CC?

I had CS6/keycode it was a downloadable version and when my PC went down and needed a new main drive the message from Adobe was they no longer supported the software. So if i wanted to continue using their products i would have to lease all their apps $49 a month plus state tax.

thanks Jason. which other software do you recommend for editing dslr, or 4k? coz i am about to acquire the 4k camera, and if the CS6 will cost me such an amount plus the internet cost per month and the way the market is heading, i will not be able to break even.

Some years ago i used Edius for editing the i switch to Adobe CS6. Since Adobe no longer supports any of the CS software i was left with no alternative other than to lease the Adobe CC and there's no charge for updates to the apps.
