What did the ringing the bells mean? And the strips of what look like paper tied to the tree?

There are two meanings for the bell.

1. To let Buddha or god know your there and your praying.
2. To cleans the area around you.

so I'm told....

The paper are fortune lists which cover many areas of life (like a fortune cookie for chinese, but with much more information, like a whole horoscope). They are tied to the tree or wall or left at the temple because its very bad luck to take them back home with you...

Im just stating to get the hang of the 7D after the FX1, Got my technique sorted now. I have shot about 160 clips so far over the past week, Got some nice footage of Buddha stone which is an ancient place 1000s of years old, in mountain caves, and not on the map, so getting to it was much like a NG doco, will get that footage up soon. should be interesting.

Yes I really like Japan,There is a lot to video here. I am from Australia originally so there is a big contrast between cultures.
