How long till HD becomes old like SD?

I bet it will be a while before it is consumer level, but agree that some high end markets may advance to it. Business conference centers, command centers, expensive hotel lobies and casinos.

These establishments can really make themselves stand out with an elite wow factor by investing in this type of technology. Screens targeted for this kind of buyer would be very expensive. There would not need to be a signal if it is set up playing very high quality and dramatic video shot just for this purpose.

For the reason of signal not likely to be there for a while, but the concept of bigger and better driving tv markets, this inevitable advance could really be great for content producers.

Holographic 3D (as in star wars) will come first. Not!

Just like 3D television for home use has gone nowhere.

Given that it's taken 40 years for HD to get up to speed, it will be a while before a replacement gets enough traction to make it obsolete.

But having said that, non-broadcast will likely be the first to embrace a size larger than HD.
