Winter is coming. For most cameras, shooting range is from 0 to 40C.
What will happen if shoot below camera specs? Will I damage the camera? Will I get corrupt footage?
What is the risk?
Thanks.

One problem that will become immediately apparent is that many electronic's battery will go dead much faster. Metal becomes more conductive at lower temperatures, and so your equipment uses more electricity. LCD screens can also have real and permanent problems in severe cold. Remember to let your glass acclimate. Taking it out of the bag or car where it may be warm will make your glass fog up. Glass needs to be close to same temperature as surroundings.
Hope those lessons I learned help.

Also in severe cold weather when electronic equipment brought in from the cold, such as cameras, let them warm up to room temperatures before using.

There are camera jackets for harsh cold weather. The only thing exposed is the lens and view finder. The LCD screen is not exposed. I always wondered how these cameras used in "survival" tv series shot in the artic or in the Yukon work flawlessly without any weather protection.

Thanks, good info. Still my concern is: can I cause damage to the camera?

Yes, you can. It would really need to be extreme though. Like if your camera was literaly cold enough to freeze. Freezing a LCD is no good. Other parts would also be destroyed. LCD will turn bruised black looking.
The deadliest catch guys for example go through a great deal of equipment to shoot that series in the cold.
I have not ever experienced damage to a camera unless it actually was cold enough to freeze the LCD.

There are a few other tv series where they have lost camera equipment due to extreme cold weather.

B&H does carry a few cold weather covers for DSLRs but who knows are well they work and at what temperatures.
