"with a DSLR... that was converted to record only IR" I wish I could convert my 5D Mark II.

There is a company that will convert your DSLR to receive IR.
But its an all or nothing thing.
Once converted, the camera will only shoot IR.

Several years ago I almost converted my old Canon 20D to IR. It involved removing and replace the filter on the sensor. Like Jake said, once it's done it done, no going back.

Maybe this one?
Zygis IR footage
You can use only a IR filter in front of your camera. All digital cameras are sensitive to IR light. Just not as much as the converted cameras when they take the IR filter off the sensor.
I think that is what Zigis is doing.

You can get a cheap infrared filter on Ebay, I have one and it works well.
