HDV to QT render settings, Vegas 9

Well, looks like I needn't use Streamclip at all. Rendering a Quicktime MJPEG clip from HDV in Sony Vegas Pro 9.
What settings should I use? Custom Frame size (1440x1080), Pixel aspect ratio should be .909, right? Frame rate is 29.97, Motion JPEG B, two fields, even dominance?? Quality at 89%
These settings give me fat letterboxing. Should I upsample to 1980x1080? Doing that only leaves me with skinny letterboxing. Something is not right....
Here's what I'm coming from:
HDV, (.m2t) 1440x1080, 60i
Since I am re-encoding, I really don't see why not to render as progressive. If I keep it interlaced, then upper field first. I'm open for reasoning, and yes, I have searched the forums and read the results.
One would think that after years of working with this stuff (not as pro, of course) I would have some of this figured out, but.....
Anyway, I appreciate any and all input and help!

Moved to Tech, please keep technical questions out of the general discussion section.
Thanks!

Thanks Kennon. -
@ Mizamook: Now for your questions about Sony Vegas... here are the Quicktime settings I use depending on what for:
Standard interlaced origin going out as interlaced:
Frame size: HD (1920x1080)
Frame Rate: 29.97
Field order: Upper first
Pixel aspect: 1.000
Video format: Motion JPEG B
Compressed Depth: 24bpp cololr
quality: ~82%
If you want audio - check the Audio box under the Audio tab.
If you have progressive footage (for example after running it through Cineform Neoscene)
Change these settings:
Field order: (None) Progressive
Video Format: Photo - JPEG
If you have progressive with alpha channel:
Field order: (None) Progressive
Video Format: PNG
Compressed Depth: 32 bpp color
That will get you the transparent alpha channel or the 4th 8bit set - only PNG offers that setting and it must be progressive.
Hope that helps. Someday I will actually do some video tutorials on all this stuff. :)

I think the typo I just erased expressed things best, but perhaps not fitting for a public forum comprised of so many helpful folk.
I've got the compression (expansion) settings all sorted out; thank you to all who contributed data.
Now here is where you may either shake your heads or laugh.....I can't run the files I create! My computer is not up to snuff. With that in mind, I wonder about the demographics of the average clip buyer population. Do they all have incredible computers?
I guess this is where HDV (25Mbps) actually works. I have heard and read many times that the long GOP issue creates problems for computers in editing, but I have been fairly happy editing.....until I import an HD MJPEG (apparently about 27MBps)...I cannot preview these files I have been working on, nor can I view them in any player. So I am a little confused as to why this format became so prevalent...this still after reading the Wikipedia article at least twice....
I did get a note from P5 saying that I can go ahead and upload the .m2t files as they come from the camera (after trimming and audio stripping) but that if I do any enhancements that require re-encoding, to submit as .mov.
OK...I can do this.
p.s. As I was finishing typing this, a message came in. You know who you are. For some reason intra-system messages are not working for me.....I will attempt to work around that. Thank you!

I get this message "Failed to load forum 1399147?!" whenever I post a reply. Come to think of it, the same happens when I try new message, too.
I am trouble. Forgive me.
In other news, my wife just got her new Canon t2i. (she does stock stills) I'll be doing some comparative shots between that and my Z5u tomorrow!

Vader, can you please explain to me (slowly) how is it possible that you take a 1440 frame and convert it to 1920 while the hight is constant, and it does not look stretched? Thanks.

@wideweb I take my 1440 footage into QTpro and in the size panel I use custom setting to 1920 x 1080. The conversion isn't streched.

Hello again!
@jason, my prefs all say YES.....I looked around trying other things, looked for problems like this in the forum....no dice. I'm open for any other suggestions, but soon I will open up a proper trouble report; it would be nice to be able to pm people to tell them how cool they are!
About "stretching" 1440 to 1920, I don't get it either....but it does look good! Go figure.
Now...I saw mentioned in another post that someone with Vegas had black frames at the end of their .mov renders. I have them at the beginning of my clips! This does not happen in any other type of format rendering. I am selecting loop region I/O points, over the clip, or trimming the clip, or trying the whole clip untrimmed....they all have several frames black at the beginning.
