Sony Vegas Crashing Solution

I knocked on wood.
OK, so many of you using Sony Vegas Pro 11 (and likely other versions) have become acquainted with the message "Sony Vegas has stopped working .... hope you saved recently, suckah!"
For me it's been getting worse. FInally ran into this fix, and for once, it seems to have really worked, so I thought I'd share in case you too need help. For the record, yesterday I crashed randomly every couple renders, usually during editing, playback, etc, but not during renders .... countless times.
After doing this fix, today, I have run ALL DAY with ZERO crashes, and seem to be able to run up to three instances of Vegas AND AE and Chrome with many tabs again.
Go to the Vegas Pro icon on your desktop (I don't use such, but I put one there to do this ... may be another way to access the mode)
Right click.
Properties.
Compatibility.
Check the box "Run in Compatibility Mode for .. " and select your operating system (mine being Win 7)
Apply, back out.
Right click again, select "Run as Administrator" This works per run, but I did not do it every time so I dont' lknow if it helped or not.
When you start the program, you will be asked if you want the program to have authorization to make changes to your machine - I think you can make this go away, but I don't care, as long as I can work uninterrupted.
Your mileage may vary. Hope this helps.

Hey Gene,
Thanks for the info!
I too get this Sony crash. I thought I was the only one and it was something wrong with my install.
Also, I thought I was the only person still using Vegas.

The error message actually say, "hope you saved recently, suckah!"?
Not condescending at all.

ODesigns - it might as well....that's the way it's always felt, and usually, no, I was forgettin'.
Jake - no, you're not alone. Hope this helps.

In v12 I see far fewer crashes... but that may now change since I posted this. But yes, the settings you talk about are correct. Also, if you right click on the icon or start up name in your programs listing, you can force set the "Run as admin" thing so you by default start it as admin.

I was pretty pissed at Sony when v12 rolled around - didn't want to invest further in them - maybe I'll consider v13 - stability is crucial! Thanks for the info on the force run as admin.

Now that I have the Adobe cloud I downloaded Premier and tried to learn it.
I keep going back to Vegas because I just can't get the simplest things in Premier.

Crash report: Yes. No, I hadn't saved in a while. But still a lot better than before.
Never did like Premiere, so I stuck wit Vegas. It's what I learned mostly on (Vegas 4) and I always loved being able to stick audio files of differing sample rates/bit depth and different video codecs on the same timeline without transcoding. Could do without the crashes though....I noticed AE only crashes upon return from hibernation, or just once in a blue moon for no apparent reason, but certainly more stable than Vegas.

Vegas 11 was very unstable for me. Vegas 12 latest update version is(fingers crossed I don't jinx it) working really well and stable for me. Very few crashes and I do projects with quite a lot of mixed media. One thing I would really like to see is a better system for speeding up clips. Why can't you just select a percentage to speed up or slow down clips I don't get. How hard could that be to do. Instead you can speed it up a max of 4 times with the control key and another 3 times with insert speed option. A maximum of 700%.

You have issues with Premiere, Jake? I live in the Adobe world at work and home. If you bring your laptop to NAB, show me what you have trouble with. I think Premiere is quite easy.
