Mavic looks pretty attractive... I still think it will do the junk 8 frame compression issue the other dji cameras have... but for portability and what it does for $1k it's worth it.
I'm fairly excited about this thing.

I call it "8 bit crapcam" codec.
The only real contender for small POV cams for similar use is the Blackmagic Micro Cinema ... but that only shoots HD. Now .. is Blackmagic quality HD as good or better than crapcam "4K" footage?

My BM HD clips are real good, no issue with them.

This thing is very interesting.
Besides the size and portability, I really like the fact that makes much less noise and especially the longer lens (apparently equivalent 28mm).
I wonder how it fares in terms of drivability, stability and footage quality.
Sure there must be something wrong, otherwise at this price point it would destroy the Phantom 4.
In other words, if it had the same quality and stability, DJI should have priced it more expensive than the P4, considering the big advantages of size, length of lens and noise

Yes, but they would completely eliminate the competition if they just made the camera a little bit better in the Mavic. They could just stop producing the P4 right away and concentrate on making billions on the Mavic.

I agree with vitto, not sure what the incentive to buy a p4 anymore is. The camera quality (from this video Mizzy posted) shows too similar to justify p4.
I'm a mavic fanboy right now, and I'm proud of it.
Potentially they were holding on to the mavic wild card and maybe gopro beat them to the punch, so they had to quickly retaliate.

I'm still planning on getting one, but boy oh boy do I detest the DJI customer disservice policy. They have no honor. They have us over a barrel.

Now suddenly mavic's camera is "shaking a little bit" but "nothing a good plugin stabilization cant cure" .
There's a big review from a guy out there so you can draw your own conclusions.
But this shake is a reason not to preorder in my opinion, since noone reports the conditions under which this shake occurs and if it's the gimbal or the drone or both.
Needs a couple of months or more given the hype around it.

Nothing worse than planning to count on what effectively is a bandaid. I sent a slider system back once due to a constant jolt in places even though the guy insisted I was an idiot who disdained the use of Warp Stabilizer. Welllll ... why advertise the damn thing as smooth, eh?
Was it highest speed, high wind? Link?
This codec doesn't get any better when you shake the camera and the ensuing loss of resolution ... well, let's just say at best it's "ok HD" if you shoot 4K.
