$50 price cap?

This experiment has cost me statistically many thousands already. If they want to lower prices then at least tell us and we will so our clips can be found with the stupid price slider minimum. Leaving us hanging wondering why we are losing thousands a month is not good business nor a good experiment. This is not the way P5 became king of the stock industry for the last decade. Just like P5, each seller has a budget based on statistics, combined sellers have a much greater expense than P5 as a corporation. Our budgets are completely destroyed and we had no idea why it happened so quickly. Now we have part of the picture.

Why are the experiments always to reduce price or steep discounts that we eat?
Wasn't that part of that town hall video back in April? Other sites are a "race to the bottom"?

There needs to be better ideas floating around at Pond5 corporate other than ways to reduce prices to get more buyers.
Maybe advertising? Pond5 used to do ad's in many of the trade magazines.
Advertising stopped and so did the rise of income here.

I'd like to hear from P5 what is actually going on.

Maybe it's a mistake on their end.... maybe not.

Let's not go crazy. Maybe the experiment is on us :-)

It must be a programming failure (glitch or how you say), because showing / offering customers only a small part of the content is so maximum stupid and business destructive, ...... i'm speechless ;)

I don't think anyone is going crazy. I would like to know what is going on. That was my first post.

Can't be on us. It's there even if you don't log in.

I tried it and same result on all 3 browsers. Unbelievable. Whether it's accidental or not, someone is asleep at the wheel and it is probably why sales stink. No summer slump-- this is a colossal failure. Who is steering this ship? I must admit it is not surprising.

Hey guys - as we've said before, we are constantly running tests in our marketplace to increase revenue. This is another one of those tests, aimed at increasing the conversion rate of visitors to the site.

Specifically, we are testing to see if certain kinds of traffic to our site converts better if we start off by capping search results at different price thresholds. While our existing and enterprise buyers have no issue paying a high price for media (and often upgrade their license), certain kinds of visitors to Pond5 are visiting and then quickly leaving. It's no secret that there are more cheap alternatives out there in the competitive landscape than ever before. When we look "too expensive" to a first time visitor, that person, instead of buying here, can go and sign up for any one of dozens of low price media subscriptions that now exist. This effort is to get those price-sensitive visitors to spend their money here by showing them up front that we have options that fit their budget.

The initial results of this testing have been incredibly positive. Visitors landing on the different capped search results pages are converting at a higher rate and are spending more money. The average price per item download was not effected.

There are a couple of different price thresholds being tested across different segments of visiting traffic, so you may see different results if you are logged in or logged out, or depending on where you came from.

We're literally always testing and cannot give notification about all the tests we're running. If tests increase revenue, they are adopted in a more permanent way. If they don't, they are thrown out. So far this test has resulted in more visitors converting into buyers, and those buyers then spending more money in the marketplace. This is good news during the slow season.

@Rekindle - this test is not responsible for any drop you're seeing in your sales over the last weeks or months, as it's literally been running for only 10 days. It's been a slow summer overall.

Feel free to send direct questions to support@pond5.com.

Thanks!

Thanks for coming in Greg. It's always good to see you.

It's no lie, people want free.

Sounds like there needs to be a larger price slider for customers to see where you can slide to the cap of your budget.
It's pretty prominent but maybe it needs to be larger for these people.

Very scary though. In Europe it seems to be capped at 80 euro's... which excludes all of my 4K clips...

But what does this mean for the future?

@Greg Are you going to keep us updated on how this impacts us?
dapoopta 31 Jul 2019 20:15
Someone explain the test to me :-)

So if the search is capped at $80 and all my clips are $90, I won't come up in the search results?
