Sorry seems the "link" function here in the forum is busted ...

ya I still have doubt about the actual video quality of the DJI. Yes DJI are the drone kings but GoPro is the king of sports cameras. Too bad DJI didn't buy GoPro and give that as an option.

Who in their right mind would OPT for a GoPro? Yuck.

Sorry .. just being snarky. I love underwater GoPro (especially with Eye of Mine enclosure) .... just not above ...

On that note .. why they not make Karma waterproof/float? That would have been a winner!

I should have mentioned Hero4 footage, ProTune, has the same crunched look when zoomed in. PLUS lens distortion.

Oh well.

Funny thing about the Mavic, I realized: It's small enough, you don't need to detach the cam to use it as a handheld stabilizer ....

I expressed a wish a few months back, asking the gods for a pocketable drone with image quality AT LEAST as good as the Inspire 1 ... preferably better, of course. It's possible that this is slightly better ... which is freaking amazing for its size.

I sacrificed a Typhoon H to the sea. Perhaps the gods like sacrifices ... at least I didn't sacrifice a finger to the Matrix ...

VERY curious I am about the subject targeting. Now that is hi tech, and certainly a little bit cool/scary.

Not cool targeting/chasing wildlife ... I can see the tech being abused. (not by me!)

Well, you kind of got what you wished for Gene, with compromises of course.

Not sure about the video quality. I initially thought they used the same sensor size as the P4. Judging by the DigitalRev comparison the footage from the Mavic is substantially less detailed.

Hmm, reading the comments below that clip suggests they DO use the same sensor. Getting a bit confused now.

I'd be surprised if it was worse .... comparing these things on Youtube is a bad idea .. in fact, videos I KNOW had more detail at first got squashed and ended up looking worse than less detailed videos .. that's one of those compression "gotchas" ... but I'll certainly be holding off until I can get my hands on Mavic footage to check out.
Mizamook 28 Sep 2016 07:27
Probably same sensor. Most likely same compression, actually, although if they got past the A9 processor that would be nice as it has "limitations". But most likely it is the same, and the lens is slightly different. The color is different. That can easily be settings and can usually be tailored to taste in post (to some degree depending on scene, skills, patience)

People complaining about the image quality need to go spend some real money on a real drone that carries a real camera. This is not about that. This is about getting sometimes very nice, but oft times very sub-par aerial footage, but at a cost and ease of use that makes it worth doing despite not being perfect. Believe me, I'd love better quality, but I don't like the cost, the headache, backache, or the risk. I personally know of a few $479 shots that would have paid for it already.

Considering this mavic... going to sell off my Phantom 3 Advanced, any takers?

It's too early to judge a new drone (there will be issues) ,especially such a small drone that needs time out there to tell if it can handle wind.
Being portable is a huge advantage, but if it's unstable when windy, i dont think there is much benefit to carry something that cant fly properly.
Plus footage is way softer than the p4.Digital rev clip showed it clearly, plus other footage i looked at was too sharpened in post (of course fanboys "reviewers" and payroll "1st glimpse" guys always forget to mention these things at the beginning) .Always slips their mind.
I'll wait a bit and eventually go the chinese drone route with a proper 3rd party camera if i buy one. These toys make money alright,i just dont see myself buying and selling drones every 6 months.
