Render circle as oval. Vegas

I hope someone has a bit of info. The net is vague, and filled with all sorts of confusing things.
I'll sum this up as much as possible:
It's a mixed source project. HDV 30p, AVCHD 720p, NTSC DV 480i.
It's an hour long. I've synched everything, color corrected to best match for what seems to be a decent look.
I will have much more to add to this, and want to render to an intermediate codec so as to make future edits easier to manage, and also provide a safety of sorts.
The only thing I have found that works is rendering out uncompressed. Rendering to Quicktime MOV results in a test circle (generated checkerboad with cookie cutter circle) to become a vertical oblong.
Reinserting this test clip in another project does not make it work.
Project settings are NTSC DV Widescreen/29.97 PAR 1.2121
Render settings are matched.
Rendering out as MPEG2 (which I am not ready to do) makes the circle a circle.
Rendering out uncompressed AVI, NTSC DV resolution, PAR 1.1212 yields a circle.
Anything else makes oval. I've messed with every setting, different codecs (I'd be happy with SD Photo JPEG, or DNxHD 145 or so...) and searched the net until my mind was not dissimilar to the fragments of lettuce you find under the counter after a rabbit attack, but have been unable to figure it out.
Thanks for any help!

You could use nested projects to break your Vegas timeline into more manageable sections. I use them on my longer projects and they work pretty well.
As for the circle being stretched what if you made the effected tracks "track motion" filter "Match Output Aspect". Don't know if that will do it but may be worth a try.
