How do i get the best compression from XDCAM EX

Hello all

I need some help, i am shooting with the EX1 camera, i have just uploaded some clips for the first time and by no means happy with the results. The thumbnails look low quality and blurry, although i have seen other shooters XDCAM EX footage looking really sharp and colorful, which my footage starts off as!

I have followed the recommendations on the Pond 5 site.

Can anyone help with the magic settings, i use FCP 6

The thumbnails always look average at first and then I believe they get re-encoded after a couple of weeks so that they look better.
Are you uploading photo JPEG files?

yeah what gin said... maybe wait a week or so to see how they look after the re-encode. if your doing photo jpeg codec between 95-100% quality, there's not much more you can do apart from a little bit of colour correction before you encode. i recommend that because the mov files tend to look a little bit washed out compared to the original footage. i'm currently using an EX3. no matter what the flash preview never looks as good as the real thing. click on the scrrenshot thumbnail to get a better impression of what your vid looks like.

Don't use anything above 95%. It only increases file size with no added value. This is more than adequate with both M JPEG and P JPEG. The clip will be re-encoded, but you are right after initial upload the clips look soft and blurry. Don't worry .. be happy.
