Software to uncompress footage?

The following are the video formats for the T2i:

Video Recording Video with MOV (image data: H.264; audio: Linear PCM (with internal mic: monaural, with external mic with 3.5mm dia. stereo mini-jack: stereo))
Video Resolution 1920 x 1080 (Full HD): 30p (29.97) / 24p (23.976) / 25p, 1280 x 720: 60p (59.94) / 50p, 640 x 480 (SD): 60p (59.94) / 50p), Movie Crop recording in 640 x 480

Personally I use Quick Time Pro to upload my H264 files as H264 as they are smaller files than photo-jpeg which is used for progressive footage. Quick Time is a free program while Quick Time Pro is an upgrade and cost 30.00 dollars.

The size of your files depends on the length of your clips. Lets say a clip 1 minute long is around 352.4Mb whereas a 40 second clip is a 188Mb using H264 as a wrapper ( codec). Clips use photo-jpeg would be much larger. Normally the average clip is no longer than 20 seconds. Pond5 has a limit of 1Gb and its a rare case when they except a clip over that limit.

@allfractup - I didn't know there is such a thing as PhotoJPEG B. There is photoJpeg, there is mjpegb, mjpega. But photojepgb???? Never heard of it.

Now to the question at hand. For really nice decompression I use Cineform - Neoscene. Not only does it do a great job, but it also takes everything from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 which is particularly important if you do any keying (chroma key) work. As the T3i only shoots in progressive, the codec is always going to be either photojpeg or png (if you want to have an alpha channel transparency) - and yes, the files get nice and big, but the quality is phenomenal.
