Craziest thing you have done to get a shot

Don't need a telephoto...I can see them from my deck.

Even the recent big storms that were all over the news that we got the tail end of here in Homer (I heard later that the stuff I was out in had gusts exceeding 70mph...no wonder I couldn't keep the tripod and myself stable!) anyway, the main event was over on the west coast, Bering Sea and all that. I wanted to go, but realize this: Alaska is BIG. Going to the main action in this case would have been be the equivalent of travelling through three or four states....and there aren't any roads....so it's expensive.

Craziest thing up to date. I went into a enormous crack-house on christmas eve xD
Here are few samples. Why did i do it exactly on that particular holiday? Simple, even junkies and drug dealers celebrate christmas :)

Peace

P.S. :
There are nearly 50 videos
And they are still "pending review".
I have posted originals along with the graded ones.

This was the most dynamic and most dangerous storm I filmed to date. It was last monsoon season at around midnight. I was in the desert near a restaurant on a hill top. The storm got closer and closer until finally I realized it was damn close. As I was using a 10 mm ultra wide lens, of course it was deceiving. It seemed further way than it really was. The final strike literally hit across the street from me - about 200 ft away. Of course when it comes to lightning and standing in the open with a metal tripod, that is considered damn close! But hey, I got some great shots, footage and adrenaline out of it. This was a still frame time lapse sequence. I got 105 super stills out of this that are not being sold as fine art as well. http://www.mopicfineart.com

There really isn't much I wouldn't do honestly. I almost put my 5D on a monopod two days ago to get eye level with Gators. I would attach the footage but it's waiting to be approved. I will attach it when I can =- )

JADesign - post your gator footage here or in the "Still in Review" post. Don't have to wait for curation to share!

I'm heading to another spot next week to get SUPER close to the gators...it's kind of this swamp area that is sort of a public park that has hundreds of them. I will try not to get chomped ! Here is one that I got last weekend though =)

Aren't those things pretty darn fast? Looks like he's smiling.....Dinner! Don't get chomped.
JADesign 11 Jan 2012 18:07
Nah they aren't that fast honestly, as long as they don't leap out of the water you are fine. I try to be pretty careful. On land they are pretty slow honestly so it's not hard to get good footage of them. Especially if it's a warm day they are basking in the sun so they pretty much stay still...unless they have a nest nearby...yeah...that's not real good.
