First look at the Sony NEX FS100

Hi LUXORPYRAMID, All you say I have considered, especially concerning the ruggedness of the EX1r and the lock of it on the FS100. Yep...that's why I decided to go with the former (when I can). The FS100 will be nice once I have "extra" money, and can use it in those situations where I don't need to worry about it and have time.

I have seen that video you posted, and will watch it again. In my research, specifically trying to determine whether to shoot for and AF100 or FS100, I found enough data to convince me that I'd go with the Sony, less image quality issues, mostly banding and low light performance, dynamic range, larger sensor, and a couple other little things. I'll have to revisit it with a fresh mind.

That LCD on top looks like something that will snap off at the least provocation.

As for the EX1, true that it's lacking in a couple annoying areas. Why they crippled it by not giving it the XDCAM 50mb/s ability, only to 35 Mb/s it goes, why bother with 25? So BBC only likes it if you've got a recorder, which I do, but wouldn't be using it all the time. SxS cards are expensive, sure, but why would you buy them? Several of the EX1 owners I talk to a very happy with their adapters and "cheap" cards....no real problem in price, performance or stability...I'm counting on that. I've been really loving the battery life in the Z5....the EX1 only gives you a few hours on each more expensive battery (again, don't use the Sonys) whereas the Z5 runs for 6 hours easy on a well-used 2.5 year old NPF975. Unless it's cold....then it get cut in half.

And yes, I'm aware that the TM700 is a pocket camera. I need one of those too!

None of this is happening anytime soon though. I owe myself too much money after this last purchase of the PIX220. Got to pay that off (to myself) first, or get a big job or something...
