4k file size converted to FHD

Why are FHD auto re-sized file sizes so small compared to the original 4k file? As an example ... I upload a 4k file of 321.5MB and the FHD file is just 13.5MB. I would expect the FHD file to be at least 321.5 / 4 = 80MB.

There's a thread somewhere a while ago which raised this very issue, but Pond5 didn't come up with a logical reason as to why there's such a huge difference in file sizes.

Thank you @shaundaley .... I am a little concerned because most sales are FHD and when I uploaded FHD with my Lumix GH3 the average file size was 155MB at 86.6 Mbps. When I see a 4K original file auto re-sized to FHD with only 13.5 mb I wonder if the quality has been severely downgraded. It makes me wonder if I should re-size them myself ....

I have just reviewed all my sales since 2018, year that I began uploading 4k files and year that auto-resized began for me. 99.99% of all my sales are FHD of files uploaded before I began uploading 4k !!! Only 1 resized 4k => FHD has sold since 2018. This only tells me that Pond5 is killing my FHD sales. Buyers are not willing to buy my FHD files that are only 25MB in size and surely are less than 30 Mbps (HDV quality). My SD files are 3 times (75 MB) as big as my re-sized 4k => FHD (25 MB) files. Re-size is automatic. I think you cannot turn it off.

All the things you mention are the concerns aired a year or two ago, so you might want to revisit that thread, if you can find it. I remember at the time comparing the 4k to HD downconversions at Shutterstock, and the HD sizes were much more in line with what you'd expect. Pond5's are brutal by comparison, but we seem no further forward in understanding why.

I agree. There is something bad about submitting 4K and the downsizing or the price slider. A definite downturn in sales when everything I upload is 4K. I believe that on the price sider when people set the slider at max of $80 the search still uses full 4K pricing and does not show all of the lower priced HD downsized. I've been saying this since the slider was introduced and sales crashed and never have got a response.

I just made a test with the same file (192865039 - 20 seconds):
Pond5 re-size program: 461.2 MB 4k (bitrate 193 Mbps) == > converted to 23.7 MB FHD (bitrate ??? Mbps)
Davinci Resolve 17: 461.2 MB 4k (bitrate 193 Mbps) == > converted to 252 MB FHD (bitrate 106 Mbps)
252-23.7= 228.3 mb of data missing
Conclusion: My Pond5 FHD converted files must be trash and that is affecting my sales. Pond5's down sizing program kills a lot of data from the original 4k file.
@shaundaley I will search for your thread.

Actually, it wasn't my thread, so you'll need to search in another way. It was started for the exact same concerns as yourself, though.

I have pushed this last year, but with relatively no response... I have noticed lot of FullHD files with kB (kiloByte) size then... and those files are still that big...
