it's an open source map and only indicates "not recommended"due to regulations but there are currently no regulations for drones/rc craft over national parks and the map does not site where you can find the so called regulations. The red zones for airports are not correct on the map. There should be a step elevation grade from 1.5-5 miles btu the map only shows a red but no yellow zones. There is currently no ban on commercial aerial work and there is currently no ban on flying over national parks. At this point there are only guidelines.

"there are currently no regulations for drones/rc craft over national parks" .... I do not know about this. Here at El Yunque National Forest nothing is allowed to fly over the forest at low altitude because of the possible effects on birds communities that are in risk of extinction. Some piers have a Homeland Security signs that state very clearly that no photos, videos, annotations, sketches can be taken of the premises. How HLS handles the hundreds of pictures taken from above is unknown. Yes, the map is vague, but this is after all something so new, a new frontier. During the next 10 years the sky will be full of quadcopters and instead of playing aerial dog fights inside the X-Box circuitry, it will be played with the X-box controlling real quadcopter fights over desiganated quadcopters battlegrounds.

Sadly the FAA has banned commercial use of drones, or UAVs. So stock footage recording with a "UAV" in North American airspace isn't allowed. You can't even fly for fun within 15 miles of Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. I learned all this info two weeks ago at a drone seminar in Washington that was hosted by the FAA. Sucks! However, we are free to use "UAVs" to record stock footage inside buildings. The FAA doesn't control airspace inside buildings such as a factory, or a convention hall.

After the seminar was over, I started to believe the FAA is enjoying the control it has over serious/responsible drone users. Strangely enough, that seminar occurred on the same day MH17 was shot down in Ukraine! Bizarre!

So, DCnewsfootage, we have to train a mouse to pilot the "drone". We need a pet "Stuart Little" and all legal problems are left behind. From UAV to MPAV (mouse piloted aerial vehicle). lol

Is the FAA ready to handle the tsunami of "civil disobedience" that lies ahead and happening right now? I do not think so. A news tv station here is already using a quadcopter to gather news.

So is it illegal to sell stock footage taken from a drone or is that considered "commercial use"?
